Suffolk / Re: Robert GIRLING b. Ipswich 1844.

Hi, this is a bit of a long shot but I'm trying to trace a Girling - possibly Abraham - who married one of my ancestors, Mary Ann Collins. I don't have much info other than Mary Ann was born around 1809 in Halesworth, and that they had a son called William, born 1854. 1861 census shows Mary Ann Girling as a widow and living with her father, William Collins, a millwright in Framlingham, so Mr Girling must had died between 1853 and 1861. Might not be one of your clan, but worth a try!!

Trying to find out about Mary Gobbitt, who married John Collins in, I think 1873. I think she was born in Iken, but don't know details of her marriage or if there were any children? Looked in all the usual places without success. Any help would be great, thank you.

Suffolk / Henry Collins 1706/d. Woodbridge 1795

I'm trying to find details of Henry Collins who died in Woodbridge on 7th Feb 1795 - he was listed as a millwright and was born around 1706. Can't trace where he was born or any family associated with him, but suspect he was part of the Collins clan of millwrights in the area. Looked in the usual places without much luck.
Any help would be great, thank you.

Suffolk / Collins family of millwrights
« on: Thursday 07 May 20 09:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

I'm looking to collect information on my ancestors - the Collins family of millwrights - based in Melton, Woodbridge, Needham market and Framlingham.

They were a big family, and were in Melton for at least 200 years.

The did have a very limited number of Christian names which they kept reusing and is making research quite tricky! Would love to hear from anyone who has any info to cross check what I already have, and hopefully to add to the tree!

Steve Collins.

Hi Windy,

This is my first post so hopefully I'm doing this right!

I'm doing research on my ancestors, the Collins families of millwrights - some in Melton, some in Woodbridge, some in Needham market and some in Framlingham. Its quite a dynasty but as they didn't seem to have much imagination there is a very limited selection of christian names which were used over and over again which is very confusing!!

Any info you or anyone on here might have which would allow me to cross reference or even add to the tree would be very helpful. Feel free to pm me if you wish.

I saw a posting from Gobbitt regarding a John Bigland Collins - he was one of my lot! Another Collins married a Mary Gobbitt....might be one of his relations - I have details if you like?
