I understand that one of my Oliver forbears was a Hugenot silk-weaver who fled France as Jacques Olivier and settled in Scotland. Eventually some of the family moved down to Manchester where they were associated with a cotton mill. I'd be interested if anyone knows about Olivers/Oliviers in Scotland!

I don't know if this is the same family, but my maternal grandfather was the Rev Henry Norman Burgess (1876-1955), born in Oldham, Middleton (near Manchester) and his parents were the Rev William Burgess and Sarah Ann Burgess (1842-1907). Sarah died in Bury St Edmunds, which makes me think that William's last parish may have been there.
