Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Photograph of John Henry Jenkins
« on: Thursday 24 April 25 12:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

This is the only photo that we have of my grandfather John Henry Jenkins who died in 1948, 7 years before I was born. He was born in Hakin in Wales but spent most of his life working on trawlers out of Grimsby, England. He is with his son Allen (my uncle) who died in 1940 aged 11. Is it possible to "clean" up the photo and make the faces clearer?

Thank You

I just use the "save to Desktop" method and it worked for me :-) My subscription ran out in April.

Thanks for the info.

Here is an update to my research on Walter Edwards, and as you can probably guess I an stuck again.

1. Walter said he was born 16/10/1910 but could not get a birth certificate to prove it.
2. Walter was my wife's grandfather but she has no DNA matches to any of the Edwards families in Nottingham/Derby where Walter came from.
3. My wife does have numerous DNA matched to a Derby family.  James Toplis(b1884) and Emily Jones(b1884)
4. This Toplis family does not have a child named Walter but they do have one names William Henry Toplis who was born on the same day but in 1911, 16/10/1911.

I strongly believe that William Henry Toplis changed his name to Walter Edwards some time between the 1921 census, when he was 9 years old living with his father and step mother, and when he got married in 1934.

I am struggling to corroborate this. I have tried checking the electoral rolls but he would not have been 21 until 1932 when he could have been included.

Has anyone got any ideas?

This is an interesting story (the Milford elopement) - the Hull connection jumped out at me and on digging it's clear the girl is John's sister

And an affray involving the parents - under "A carrier and his wife" in the second column

Inquest into father's death. Another very short report notes he was known as Boscow Jenkins

JOhn snr seemed to have a few run ins with the law involving drunkenness, stray animals and horses and carts, and this one where John jnr gets a mention
https://newspapers.library.wales/view/3063695/3063698/17/

Another great find. The girl in the first story is definitely his sister. Not so sure about the other stories. At first site the dates don't seem to match but I will check them out properly.

Thank again.

On the online index for the archives there is a J Jenkins aged 32 from Milford Haven sailing on the trawler Somerville from Grimsby in 1911. Described as Deck hand on one record and Bosun on a further record Ref 208/5/56/301

That was a great find. I have found the the skipper of the Somerville was Alfred Britton from Hull. John H Jenkins sister, Elizabeth, was married to an Alfred Britton who lived in hull. Too much of a coincidence??? looks like I have some more digging to do.

Thanks again.
