Lanarkshire / Help locating an ancestor in Glasgow and where to start
« on: Saturday 16 May 20 03:25 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am not to familiar with Scotland the sites available to search.  I have checked several with no luck.   I am looking for John Gibson, I do not have a Date of Birth or Death.   I know he lived at 56 Carrick St, Anderston, Glasgow, in 1924 as I have a letter from him to my Great Grandfather.   He mentions a brother named Willie, and by the letter I believe he is in San Francisco, and a sister named Mary Ann who I believe never left Glasgow.   Does anyone have any suggestions or help?  Thank you, Kellee

That's fabulous news.   I happened upon the instructions on another site, I haven't really played around too much with searching PRONI that way, but now that I have a little bit of knowledge into what else is out there, I may try again to do more searching at a later date.   I am very happy that I was able to help others.   Again, thank you so much!

Hello is there someone who can explain what "BBB 1813" means from the above post?
"existing family links  from your resposes John Montford bbb 1813 d could be plot;A/#/569  m 1829 Grace Ritchie bbb 1813 d"

Also for the two in Loughconoly, could they be the same person or different, such as father and son?  I am unfamiliar with how the tithe's books would work?
Munfoad, John Townland: Loughconoly Year: 1825
Munfoad, John Townland: Loughloughan Year: 1825
Munford, John Townland: Loughconoly Year: 1825

Thank you

Thank you for the link to the cemetery, the one headstone with the unknown dates is the one I really need, but unfortunately the headstone is not readable.   I am in the US, so one day, maybe I can try and see if first hand to try and read it

Thank you all so much for all your posts and information, everyone's information seems to be correct and matches to the Robert Crawford I am looking for.   The 1851 census for the old age pension for Thomas, seems to be inline with what I have already found.   I tried to google for the actual document, but was unable to locate it, I did find a transcribed version, but just list the names and ages of children, which is extremely helpful, although would love to see the actual document.   I do know they had 5 children, Jane, Nancy (1844), William, Elizabeth (1854) and Margaret (1857), so this census record matches perfectly, and gives me more Dates of birth, and two more children of Thomas and Robert.   I have found the families of Nancy, Margaret and Elizabeth, still on the hunt for Jane.   You have all been so kind and helpful, I really do appreciate it.  I am able to piece together more of my family.

I know I mentioned Adam Gibson, he was a carpenter also from the Bogstown Braid area, and would have been born before 1829.

Hello,
I was able to find John Montford's death date from the Will Calendar's on PRONI, unfortunately I do not have his birth date.  I believe he is buried in Broughshane First Presbyterian, however, I have been unable to locate a headstone or any other information.     I have been able to find a lot of information on most of their 10 children, however, I was hoping to find more information on their parents.   The information you provided is the correct Montford line, and I thank you.
