Cheshire / Re: Cheshire Parish Records Marriages only pre 1837
« on: Monday 01 May 06 20:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi Berny

I have had another look around the indexes and there is a marriage of a George Partington 5/November/1833 to a Mary Hatton by Licence at Stockport, looking through the various census years I can find only one family of Partingtons where the parents are George and Mary and the right ages. How certain are you that the mother was a Brown.

I would suggest you try to have a look at this marriage in the records at Stockport, there will be more names on the Licence other than George and Mary, hopefully you may find a connection.

hope this helps

Hi Peter, I have a birth certificate showing Brown as mum's name. I think I've found the marriage too. I was looking on the IGI site and found names and dates that fit BUT it states Manchester, Lancs which is a bit vague. However there are many later marriages at St Thomas' church in Heaton Norris which in 1833 would have been in Lancashire. I'm quite hopeful that this may take me back a further generation.
Many thanks for taking the trouble to do some searching. Very much appreciated.

This is a Stockport based family living in close proximity  to St Mary's Parish Church in the Market place. I know first 2 children were christened there.  Thanks very much for trying.           berny

would you be able to help find George Partington abt 1811 married to Mary Brown abt 1813. I've been unsuccessful. They had their first child 1834.

Ireland / Re: Irish surname spelling dilemma

I took heywood's advice re Free bmd then e-mailed Wolverhampton RO. They are always very helpful and give you the info prior to buying the cert or not. They have e-mailed me straight back with a marriage between Patrick Mulraney and Bridget Kenny. The birth cert of my Gtgma clearly states Kelly. OH HECK!
Perhaps saying that Mulraney is the accepted form rather than the  correct one would be more accurate.
Onward and upward.
Thanks for all the help        berny

Thanks for that. I will certainly try the marriage on bmd. John & Margaret are the siblings of my gt gma Mary. Their certs show the name  spelt Mulreany whilst my gt gmas is spelt Mulranell. I do love a challenge------fortunately.

Ireland / Irish surname spelling dilemma
« on: Sunday 09 April 06 19:36 BST (UK)  »
Finding my Irish ancestors has been quite a challenge as the surname is spelt differently each time. The correct name is Patrick Mulraney and he married Bridget Kelly. I don't know where or when but they were in Wolverhampton in 1861. How do I find a marriage certificate when I cannot be sure whether anything I find is a mis-spelling or not connected to my search.  Any suggestions please?
