Gerald,

Looks like we might be cousins - I am descended from Pat McGowan and Anne Scanlon (great grandparents) they had a son John abt 1908 who is listed in the 1911 census (house 35).  In the 1901 census Pat and Anne are living with Anne's parents.

The birth cert given by KG today backs this up (if we can transpose Anne and Nancy)

Are you still in Norfolk then ? I live in Norwich.

best wishes,
Martin

Hi Martin! my grandad John McGowan lived in Cranworth, which is close to Dereham. I used to stay with him in the school holidays when i was a kid. I was born, and still live in North London. My dad Bernard, was born in Norfolk.
Its nice to find out about family, i was born in 1966.
For some reason i cannot access your message... maybe i am too knew to the board?
I will try again though!  thanks for the reply

Hi,
i have also just started looking for my Grandfathers roots, John "darkie" McGowan who looks like he was the son of Anne & Patrick Mcgowan from house 35 Dooyork... From the census 1901, Anne was formally Scanlon.
My Grandfather moved to Norfolk in the UK, not sure when, and had 1 child, my father Bernard Victor Mcgowan.
