Regarding Janet/Jessie,  I rushed to think she was a sister of William and Jane and Mary and all the rest but she also could be an Aunt as possibly a much much younger sister of John's.  Marriage to Catherine Sophia Hughs said to be 1844 so if Janet was born 1842, she may be sister to John or John's daughter with another earlier wife who likely would have passed-away.  Another mystery.  But in all, I do believe this record of death lines up with the date on William's gravestone and as noted she was from Queenstown.

Janet Stirling's death record found as "Jessie Stirling" same death date as on grave marker and noted as from Queenstown in the Cork Death Records.  Says age 42, Spinster and died from a brain disease in an asylum (my words not exact words on record).  My guess is that Janet had a developmental disability and when John died it was hard to care for her properly or she needed extra care due to her needs.  In those days it was common for delayed children or adults to live away from their own families.  So mystery solved.  Note:  Based on age, she may have been the eldest child having been born in either 1841 or 1842 depending on the month she was born.

Many thanks for the index image link for Maria Stirling who's probate was held in Dec. 1843.  I appreciate all.

In my recent genealogy research into my Stirling ancestors there in Cobh/Queenstown/Cove of Cork, I came across a probate notice for a Maria Stirling who's estate was probated in 1843 in Cove of Cork which is now Cobh.  I am thinking this Maria may be either John's mother or John's sister.  Any ideas?

Many thanks.  I also am hoping to find out where Catherine Sophia Hughes, and husband John Stirling, are buried and if they have gravestone monuments.  Again, thank you for the vital records here.

A dam and lake in the United States of America, was originally named for a grandson of Catherine Sophia Hughes and John Stirling.  His mother was Ellen Stirling Thorpe.  His full name was John Edward Stirling Thorpe.  J.E.S. Thorpe was an Engineer and executive with ALCOA a leading American Aluminum manufacturer.  He also was a designer of hydro-electric generating dams.
