Hi

Thanks for the reply. Yes you are right age in census and death records are unreliable.

The reason I came back to this after a year was because I recently discovered a family recollection that the grandson Joseph you mention was related to my family on my fathers side. Also Mary Anne Harley is listed as a god parent on Joe’s birth record. Joe also had an uncle called Joseph who lived in Scotland before coming back to Ireland.
But it is difficult to figure out at this stage without those missing parish records.

Anyway thank you.

Kind Regards

Hi DoireM

I have been looking at the records again for Anne Bradley and don’t  believe she is related to the Bradley’s in Gortanny that you mentioned. Ellen Bradley died in Dec 1881 at the age of 60 so presumably born in 1821. Anne Bradley’s age is given as 66 in the 1901 census so born in 1835 so date wise looks  improbable that Ellen Bradley was her mother. I believe Anne Bradley’s parents were Jeremiah and Hannah Bradley from Three Trees. Just wondering if you have some records that confirm your original supposition about who Anne’s parents were.

Kind regards

Hi DoireM

Thank you for your very kind reply confirming that you have asked the local parish priest(s) about the missing records. It will save me asking the same questions.  :)

Do you know the names of the brothers and sisters of Anne Bradley. I didn’t know that Anne’s parents were Edward and Ellen Friel. I had thought Anne might have had a brother called William but given you believe Anne’s father was Edward then the William I had identified cannot be correct.

Re Elizabeth Harley date of birth I believe based on census records she was in fact born in 1871.

Hi DoireM

I am descended through Denis.

My badly phrased question on why there is no copy of the marriage register in the NLI is really about what happened the records. We’re they confirmed lost / destroyed when they undertook the microfilming in the 50s. Interestingly the Iskaheen NLI image is based on a copy made in 1925 on unheaded paper. Compare that to the Moville lower records which have formatted headings so presumably Derry Dioceses probably issued standard registers to be used by the parishes.

Re marriage date I suspect 1858. As head of household John states marriage lasted 47 years. Anne died in 1907 so suspect he was counting back from 1907 rather than 1911.

Hi

I am related. John Harley and Anne Bradley are my great great grandparents.

I have been trying to find their marriage record with no success as seemingly no parish marriage records for the period for Moville Upper (Iskaheen) Really frustrating especially as Moville Lower have many more records for the period. I wonder why the NLI didn’t microfilm the marriage records for Iskaheen when they doing the baptismal records in the 50s.

The missing birth record is for Hugh born circa 1862.
