Biggles wrote "There is no link between Roots Magic Essentials and any other online website, RME is basically a read only app."

Per the Manager of Rootsmagic Support "RootsMagic Essentials (free version) will do a full download of the Ancestry tree, including media".

This appeared on Facebook 6 years ago when Treeshare was introduced and has not been changed.

The VA function that has marker applications is National Cemetery Administration https://www.rootschat.com/links/01t4a/

You must use the on-line portal to submit FOIA requests https://department.va.gov/foia/

Clarence "Sonny" Braun's obituary says he served during the Korean Conflict (1951-1956) but does not say where. ( https://www.rootschat.com/links/01t48/ )

About 80% of the Army records from 1912-1960 were destroyed in a fire on 12 July 1973.

Certain of the records have been salvaged as they were partially burnt and others have been reconstructed. To determine if this applies an application for records must be made. ( https://www.rootschat.com/links/01t47/ )

Because he separated more than 62 years ago his military records are open to the public ( https://www.rootschat.com/links/01t46/ )

A better bet might be the Dept of Veterans Affairs since information on rank and service dates would appear on the application for the VA furnished marker. I haven't done any research on how to do this yet but will have to get back to you.

Pre 1917 military records are held by the National Archives and Records Administration facility in Washington, DC. This includes US Army enlisted records 1789-1912 and US Navy enlisted records 1798-1885. Due to Covid-19 they are currently closed to the public and operating with severely limited staff (St Louis which is the main US repository for WW2 personnel records has only 10% of staff working). There may be a charge for copies of records but they will notify you of what they are before you get them. It cost me $70.00 to get 147 pages of my father's Navy records from 1945-1965. At https://www.archives.gov/dc is an email address which I would use to find out more information. Good Hunting!

Citizenship has never been a requirement for enlistment in the US military going all the way back to 1776. Officers are  required to be citizens by law. So long as the individual meets  all other  requirements for enlistment they will be accepted. A major benefit is that serving in the military currently reduces the time requirement to gain citizenship significantly. Currently, one must live in the US for  5 years before applying but the time period is waived for current military members as are all fees for citizenship application. After the declaration of war on terror is revoked the max time in the military will be 1 year.
