Not 100% sure but this looks to be my great-great grandfather James who farmed at Acton House and prior to that at Blackbrook with his father Spencer. In other census he is noted as grazier and I have found references to sheep in associated newspaper articles.

My ancestors too are listed as having resided at Acton House with several shown as being born there. The last name is Standen. My great-great grandfather James Standen looks to have farmed there and he had several children with his wife Mary: James Percy Espenett Standen; Samuel Bernard Standen; Duncen Espenett Standen; Spencer Reginald Standen; Bertha Standen and Ethel Standen. Any information about the Standen's of Acton would really help me with my search for my great grandfather (Spencer)

Thanks for this. James is my great-great grandfather and I am currently on the trail of Ethel's brother Spencer who is my great-grandfather who emigrated to Canada in 1903 and vanished from Canada around 1925.

I have thanks. Not much there about Acton Hall so I am hoping to hear from locals who know the history of the area.

My great grandparents (James and Mary Standen) and great uncles and aunts were all born in Wittersham and some were born in/lived in Acton House and one aunt (not sure which one) died there. Anyone have information about James or Mary or their children, James Percy Espenett Standen, Samuel Barnard Standen, Duncan Espenett Standen, Spencer Reginald Standen, Bertha Mildred Martin (Standen) or Ethel Marguerite Pankhurst (Standen), it would be much appreciated.
