Re Pateley Bridge:
Try putting into familysearch or ancestry that location. Then surname in various spellings: Demaine-Demain- Demayne- D'main. Add approx range of years and see what pops up.

This is for Philip and other persons looking for William Demain in Pateley Bridge. I’m not sure how to reply individually to them. Perhaps someone can forward it. Why are names in Latin? This was a convention in early Anglican Church records in England, that slowly gave way to English language entries. ‘Gulielmi’ means of William of William’s [the possessive case] vs Gulielmus, which would be the Latin for William. In one of the entries, it has been shortened to ‘Gul’. Early church records are sometimes scanty as pages can get damaged or lost. Every early church records were written on narrow rolls of parchment. To try to view the originals in that format is often really hard to read. Handwriting was often cramped together and the style of cursive writing was quite different from modern cursive.

Who was the William Demaine having children in Pateley Bridge? We don’t know when, where or whom he married or is he had children in other places. This William must have been born abt 1665-1680. Perhaps a close relative was: Johannes [John] Demain Marriage:13 Apr 1696 at Pateley Bridge,York,England Spouse: Anna Jackman.

2 of my DNA Demaine cousins descend from William DEMAYNE and Margat BUTTERY married at Fewston. I & 2 DNA cousins descend from the ones at Bardon-Bolton Abbey, but obviously, they all descend from the same line.

Hello! More about William Sharp born in Oundle son of John, a shepherd living at Barnwell, & Chalotte Throssell. UK, Prison Commission Records, 1770-1951
Wm Sharpe Marital Status: Married; Criminal Admission Age:27; Record Type:   Register; Birth Date:abt 1820
Birth Place: Stoke Dial Nr Oundle Northpp; Occupation: Farm Laborer; Criminal Charge: Killing Sentence: 10 Years; Criminal Admission Date: 24 Sep 1847; Criminal Admission Place: Middlesex, England; Jail: Pentonville Prison; Father: Ino Sharpe; Source Description: Pentonville Prison, Middlesex: Register of Prisoners; more details:  in prison 11 months, 4 days; admitted 24 Sep 1847 at Millbank; he was married with 2 children, was a labourer; to his charge, he was tried 8 Apr 1847. To have 2 children by 1847, he will have married by or before 1845. Since he was in jail in Middlesex, he may have married there, or in Northants or any point in between. He had sibs who had moved to the London area, so he might have gone to Middlesex because of that. He wouldn't have been free until 1857. If he was transported, I haven't found it.

Perhaps this is him or perhaps not: 1841 West St, Oundle, Northamptonshire
William Sharpe, 21 c1820; Sarah Sharpe 24 c1817; John Sharpe 1 Month c 1841
Marriages Mar 1840 : HENSON, Sarah  Thrapston Dist vol 15 page 477 & SHARP, William. The district Thrapston spans the boundaries of the counties of Huntingdonshire and Northamptonshire. A John Sharpe bap at Great Gidding, Huntingdonshire 6 Jun 1841

I found another William Sharp: Baptism Date: 25 Feb 1811, Baptism Place: St Leonard, Shoreditch, Hackney, Middlesex, England parents: John Sharp & Charlotte Sharp of Hoxton Town.

A DNA test would determine whether the Australian William Sharp is the Oundle one or the Shoreditch one.

Northamptonshire Lookup Requests / Re: Stanion baptism/ Tebbutt early C18th

Hi Mortieau
With all those names you found in Stanion: John, Robert, Alice & how they are all mentioned in the John Tebbutt of Nassington including Alice as wed to John Cunnington, I think you certainly have found it. I’ve sent for an ancestrydna kit, so after it is processed & I somehow find cousins, perhaps this mystery will resolve. Now to check Geddington and it seems the older John Tebbutt was employed in Stanion, but not from there originally. Stanion is 10 miles from Kings Cliffe & 9 miles to Oundle; Oundle & 12 miles to Geddington.
Kind regards,
Spinning Jenny

Hello,
I also descend from Alice Tebbutt [Tebbut] who married John Cunnington in Kings Cliffe on 25 Feb 1735-36. Stanion & KC are about 11 miles away. I notice that there are a few Alice Tebbutts baptized in Northants. Can you tell me why do you think it is the Stanion one? It's a long time since anyone contributed to this thread, so if anyone is still looking, please reply. Thanks!
