If you go to Scotland's People you will find in the 1700s quite a few mentions of Chrisitan Hoys in the Portmoak and Cleish parishes. They maybe relatives of Hoys who moved from north Fife in the late 1600s.

Hello, my name is Neal Hoy and I also have traced by lineage to the Kinross-shire Hoys of the 17th/18th centuries. Thank you for your feedback as there were one or two Hoys I hadn't known about and helped me to dig a bit further. I have written quite a bit about these Hoys and how I am related to them but I think our lines diverge in the 18th century. If you are interested I can send you parts of the relevant stuff which may help you in your quest. I only used Scotland's People site.
All the best,
Neal Hoy, from Edinburgh but presently based in Minsk, Belarus.
You can use this site I suppose to contact me. It's my first post.

Thanks so much. So, maybe this man had got the wrong end of the stick as often happens with family legends. I shall look into this. Thank you again.

I had a neighbour who lived in Edinburgh but was from Anstruther in Fife. He was about mid 70s in the 1990s so may well have passed away by now. He looked a bit swarthy and could pass for Spanish and he had a Spanish surname, Montador. He said he was a descendant of an Armada survivor and that there were a few others with that name in Fife.
