Hi Annypanny,

I know this is a very old thread (!) but on the off chance you're still active on here, there is a chance we have the same relative - I have one who also died at this address in 1964, age 57. In my case, a John Finlay (my great-great uncle).

Scotland / ScotlandsPeople - missing info. on death record
« on: Sunday 16 February 20 23:56 GMT (UK)  »
I have found a death record for a relative in 1964 and it stood out as different to every other I,'ve found. No parents names are given for him, and his wife is only named by her first name. He died in hospital and they have listed his usual residence. The death is registered in Glasgow North.

I'm sure this might be a case where the simplest explanation is the correct one - he sadly died alone with no next of kin around to share this information? I've easily been able to find his family myself through other sources but this just struck me as quite odd and I wondered if it is common?

Thanks Carole. William's occupation in the 1911 census was Slaters' Labourer and in 1912 on this marriage certificate it says 'Labourer'.

I'll dig back into this over the weekend, thanks for your hints.

Renfrewshire / Annie Bushell of Eastwood

Hello,

I've been stuck on a bit of a puzzle over the Christmas period and I can't seem to see the wood for the trees (or indeed the Bushells) so wondered if anybody here has encountered a similar issue before and might be able to advise...

Here is the information I have for this relative, Annie Bushell, traced mostly through records on ScotlandsPeople:
- Born 1890 to William Bushell and Mary (Anderson)
- Living in 1911 at 31 Pleasance Street with father William Bushell, stepmother Helen (Strang) and siblings - Annie is age 21 and working as a bleachfield worker

The marriage record I have found is for an Annie Bushell, married in 1912 to William Green. Annie's address is given as 31 Pleasance Street and her age as 22. However, while her father is William Bushell, the mother here is listed as Margaret (previously McCafferty(?) born Blakeley).

I can't work this one out. Could it be a possible error on the record, or am I the one who has slipped up somewhere? Has anyone else experienced something like this before?

Thanks everyone for helping out here. A little more information - my great grandfather died of leukaemia in 1961. The register seems to indicate that he died at home, but with the nature of his illness an extended period in hospital isn't out of the question.

We do not recognise the man peering through the bed unfortunately!

Hi all,

We have found this photograph in which we believe the man in the tartan blanket/shawl to be related to my father. Though my dad never met his paternal grandfather (Robert Finlay, 1900 - 1961) his first instinct was that this could be the man in the photo - based on family resemblance and potentially other photos he'd seen as a child. However with closer thought, we think the man in the picture looks older than 61 and the photo itself potentially too old.

My dad's great-grandfather, also named Robert Finlay, could be another possibility. He was born in 1873 and I'm still working on a date of death for him (though he was still alive in 1923 and dead by 1961).

I'm still fairly new to this and we really don't have much in the way of family photographs of this side. Any light that can be shed would be much appreciated  :)

Thanks all for your patience and help - I agree it looks most likely to be William.

That's really helpful, thank you. I'm still getting used to the slightly different way of searching Scottish records so hadn't yet found much of that information.

Thanks - it was the file size that was causing me to be unable to attach. I've now managed to upload some cropped versions, it hasn't done the image quality many favours but as I said it's very faded anyway.
