« on: Friday 24 March 06 23:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hope I'm doing this right! I'm new here...

From the 1851 census:

address West End, Tweedmouth, Berwick on Tweed.
Alice White, head, widow, 62, Retail grocer, born Berwick on Tweed.
George White, son, u, 23, Iron moulder, born Scotland.
Mary Hannah, daur, m, 21, born Berwick on Tweed.
John Hannah, son in law, 22, Iron moulder, born Tweedmouth.

That's it. Thanks for your help - and I hope you can find them in the 1841!

Fife / Death - Ebenezer Simpson.
« on: Friday 24 March 06 12:14 GMT (UK)  »
Hello
I have been trying to find the death of my great grandfather, but have had no luck at all. I know he was still alive in 1924, when his wife died. I have her death cert. but can't find one for him. This is what I know:

Ebenezer Simpson born 1852 in Kinghorn, Fife.
His parents were John Simpson and Janet Venters.
Ebenezer married Margaret Lumsden in Buckhaven in 1874.
Margaret died in 1924 - residence was Old Brickworks, Lochgelly.

Can anyone please help me to find his death ?
Thanks in hope!

Durham Lookup Requests / 1841 Census look up
« on: Friday 24 March 06 11:41 GMT (UK)  »
This might be impossible but...I need information from the 1841 census for Berwick or Tweedmouth. I am trying to find my gg grandfather and his parents (whose names I am unsure of). In 1851 they were living in Tweedmouth but I am told that in 1841 these areas came under Co. Durham? Details are:

George White aged about 13 or 14 (in 1841) born in Leith, Scotland.

I think his parents were named George and Alice (or Alison or Ellis). And he may have had a sister named Mary (aged about 11) and another named Elizabeth (aged about 15).

I am sorry I don't have more info. But I hope someone can help me!

Berwickshire / Re: Lamberton Toll marriage?
« on: Tuesday 21 March 06 03:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
My 2x great granparents were married at Lamberton Toll in 1853. I had trerrible trouble finding the record because the IGI gives their place of marriage as Barton (transcription error I guess). Anyway I eventually found them in a booklet called Irregular Border Marriages. I believe there are 2 volumes 1833 - 49) and (1808 - 64). compiled of old newspaper entries from the day. They were published by Northumberland County Archives Service and Durham FHS. There is probably a similar thing for Coldstream marriages....
