Wiltshire Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Calne street name
« on: Sunday 07 September 08 21:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I knew I'd seen this address in my tree too - searched & found the person I was thinking of  - then  checked on the 1851 Census. Eatwell Lane  seemed to be off or near Mill Street & close to Butchers Row - Mill Street is still there but I suspect the two smaller lanes have given way to modern buildings - or car parks!

Funnily enough, in 1851 there was a Catherine Eatwell, widow, c 1798 living in Butchers Row, near Eatwells Lane - perhaps the family she married into had property in that lane & it was named for them?

Hope this helps.

Warwickshire / Re: Bradley family - Birmingham early 1800s

Hi,

I've just discovered I have some Bradleys in my direct line - some born in Shipston on Stour, later living in Birmingham - although these are  later in date than you were looking for.

I have a George Bradley born c 1826, (possible Leamington) married a Sarah Plumb( born  c 1826 in Shipston) married in S-O-S 1847, first child born in Birmingham c 1847/1848 - George, then Ellen, Fanny / Jane, Clara, Amelia and Walter born 1849 - 1857 in S-O-S.

George senior was a tailor - 1851 in S-O-S then 1861 & 1871 the family are in Birmingham - any of these ring a bell with anyone? Only just starting on this line  - literally this week! - so any info gratefully received!

Wiltshire Lookup Requests / Re: Alice Maud HENLY 1891 &1901

Thank you Heather

 - yes, I'd forgotten about Clive's site.
He'd sent me his GEDCOM about 2 years ago so most of my Henly info. is from then,  plus the odd bit's I've found on freeBMD & various census returns since - so most from before he set up the new Henly site.

I haven't looked at it for ages  - I shall see if I can remember my password! Last time I looked, I don't think he'd added my line in - but I know from his original GEDCOM you are my 6th Cousin .... no emoticon for a wave hello, so :) cousin!

My line is from Mary Henly b 1755, daughter of William Henly c 1713 Brinkworth & Jane Skull 1722 Tockenham)

regards,
Wendy

Sorry to muddy the waters a bit here but I have both Alice Maud Henly girls in my tree....(distant cousins).

The mention above in 1901 of Bessie made me look at my tree again - Bessie Henly (born Q end Sep 1882, Elizabeth Daisy Henly) was with her parents George Henly (1840) & Dinah ( nee Brittain) (1841) on the 1891 census.

I had already seen her on the 1901 census & I had at the time assumed the Alice she was with was her sister. The other Alice is her 10C1R - daughter of Robert Henly & Fanny (Burgess).

I have found one  of the Alices on 1901 -though now I'm not sure which is which.

An "Alice Maude Henley" married William Henry Telling ( born c 1876 Ashton Keynes, Wilts) in Kings Norton district, Worcs. Q Dec 1900 - ref 6c 946 ( This was the spelling of her name)
- they are on the 1901 census as TILLING - she as Alice M Tilling, (he as Wm Hy Tilling) ,  born abt 1875, Calne. - living in Balsall Heath, Birmingham.

Any ideas??

Hi Carol,

Thanks for these details - I have that 1710 Elizabeth  Eatwell's parents were Angel & Frances - no births, places or marriages found - their names are from all the childrens baptisms. I have seen somewhere - probably IGI -  that Angel was born 1679 although I have not found anything else about them.

I have their children as Elizabeth 1710, Rachel 1712- 1714, Angel 1715, Gabriel ( also seen as Jabesh) 1717 & Mary 1718.

I have the same children as you have for John Bullock 1702 and Elizabeth (Eatwell) 1710 - I have their marriage as 31 Mar 1729 and the daughter Mary Eatwell as baptised 20 Apr 1729 - 20 days later. I had assumed John was probably the father & although they married , perhaps just before her birth, the Yatesbury church vicar didn't allow her to bear the surname Bullock ? I've seen that happen in other families.

Lydia Bullock 1744  & James Ponting 1747 - I also have only found the two children - I'm descended from John 1778 & his marriage to Rebecca Coller. They had 5 children, including  John 1816 in Corsham who married Hannah Whale (1823) in Compton Bassett - they had 13 children  ??? - my line is from Harriet Ponting 1851 who by 1871 was a nursery maid in Oxfordshire & then married - maybe, marriage not found ! - William Sellwood from Dorset. They moved around the UK quite a bit - he was a coachman, so I assume that's how they met - working together or in houses near each other - & they ended up in Swynnerton, Staffordshire where my Grandad Walter was born. ( William & Hannah had 11 children - then when she died he remarried & had another 6... ::) - glad I didn't follow that birth- rate tradition.....

I have also received a lot of information on other Bullock families & also a family they married into  - named Strange - perhaps we have the same source... John F ?

I haven't seen any information on any Robert or Judith Bullock or a document for 1733 - that sounds interesting - can you give me any more information ?.... thanks.

Interesting about the motor museum with the name Atwell - I have actually seen two men from the family ( descended from Angel 1795) born in Compton Bassett who used the same spelling. One, James Atwell 1847 moved to London & all the census I've seen have the Atwell spelling. I've also seen the name as Eattell, Eatell, Eatwell & Eattwell...

I have quite a lot of information on the Eatwell, Ponting and Bullock lines - I haven't looked at these branches recently so  might need to tidy my notes a little ! Perhaps we could exchange more information?
I'm very new to this site - only found it yesterday!!!  :-[
How do we exchange emails privately? Perhaps once I've tidied up my notes, we could exchange GEDCOMs.

looking forward to hearing from you again,

Wendy

Hi Carol,
I also have John Bullock and Elizabeth Eatwell - they're my 5 g grandparents. Their daughter Lydia is my direct line, through her marriage in 1774 to James Ponting in Yatesbury. I'm quite interested in the Eatwell line as I also have another branch in Wiltshire with an Eatwell - unable to link them as yet. Have you anything more on John's line? I had not even found his birth / baptism.
thanks,
Wendy
