Many thanks to Derek, "Ciderdrinker" and Shaun J for their helpful answers to my query.  My husband John is still trying to sort things out.  But the John I am talking about definitely had 3 wives.  And his father was George, well so we think.  I will let you all know when we have found more information.

Can anyone help with the baptism date or any information on a John Wildgoose supposedly born about 1808 in Taddington, Derbyshire please.

I know he was still alive in 1871 in Disley, Derbyshire.

Many thanks.

Yes that is Ellen and Patrick in the Workhouse.  You are a genius.  How do you manage to find these people so quickly. I wouldn't have known where to look. Yes Mathew and Ellen were married but must have split.  I have since heard stories about his son Patrick who did the same thing to his wife and children, just abandoned them and put them in the Salvation Army Home here in New Zealand when his first wife died.  So Patrick took after his father in the same way.

Thank you very much for your help in this matter, very much appreciated, and my friend is so pleased as well.

Thank you ever so much for that information.   But I wonder what has happened to Ellen in the 1911 Census and also Mathew is down as single.  You have been very helpful to me and I am sure the lady I am doing this for would be very excited to have this information.

The maiden name of the mother was Weir.  The parents names of Patrick were Matthew Cairns & Ellen Weir.

But thank you for your reply though.  Much appreciated.

Many thanks.

I am researching for a friend who wants to know if Matthew & Ellen Cairns had any other children apart from Patrick (Alexander) who was born on 13 February 1901 at 11 Hill St, Ligoniel but his birth was registered in Belfast, Co. Antrim.  Also if a marriage could be found for his parents this would be a bonus.

Hope this is the right way to ask questions.

Many thanks.

Many many thanks to Merlin for her helpful answers and sites for me.  I am new to Australian genealogy, my expertise only extends to England.  You have certainly given me more than I ever thought possible.  So my best wishes to you in your own research.

Kind regards

Thank you very much for all your help.  I am amazed what you people in Australia do for other people.  I am new to Australian genealogy, so would not have known where to look for all this information.
Kind regards

My thanks go out to MERLIN, hope that is correct.  You have been a big help. Up to what year can you access the Australian Electoral Rolls?
