I had to do a project covering education development from Victorian times and relate it to my family tree. Out from nowhere can all these photos of the people who were my ancestors and alive in this period. I was hooked on family history. I still have this first tree and project book. This was 44 years ago.

Thank you once again for your replies. I have searched through all her children this morning and she is not with any of them. As far as I know she was always known as Caroline but I have very little information on her.
I have her death certificate and she is not at Marine parade the address given. I have no knowledge of where she was after 1911 census or her husbands death in 1915. Considering she lived for another 20 years I was hoping to add some details to this person.
Apparently a very small percentage of records were in a poor condition and could not be repaired and transcribed. I will leave her for now and hope to find her in the future when searching is easier.

Thank you everyone who has read and offered help and advice. It’s very reassuring that others have struggled to find her and it’s not only me.
Sadly I have moved out of Kent after living there all my life and can’t get back to view the electoral rolls at present.
I will follow up on the advance search for her children to see if she is with one of them. Otherwise it might be a case of waiting till we can search the indexes at least without a charge.

Hi everyone and thank you for reading my post.
I am struggling to find my 2X great grandmother. I have tried every combination possible and spent a small fortune trying to locate her.
Her name is Caroline Nowers Matcham (maiden name Williams). Born Dover 1853. Died Dover 1935 so I know she was alive in 1921.
Her husband died in 1915 in Dover and I have accessed the record for the address they were living at in 1915. They have moved. I have also accessed the address that was given on her death certificate and she is not there.
I have tried searching on first name only as well as by surname but having no success. She is my only relative this far back in my tree who was still living on the 1921 census and I would like to find her.
Any suggestions on what combination to put in next would be very helpful.

Well my great grandfather’s middle name is down as Charles when it is Clarke. I can’t locate another great grandparent although I know she died in 1935. I know her location but wish you could search by address which would help. I can’t afford to check each of her children to see if she is with them.
Interestingly my relative in the lunatic asylum is listed with his full name not initials.
