Dublin / bergin family
« on: Tuesday 28 March 06 17:53 BST (UK)  »
I have got John Bergin a shoemaker born abt 1837, wife Mary Ann, children John b 1865, Theresa b 1867 and Joseph b 1871 all Ireland and a Mary but dont know when/where she was born. In 1881 they were in Liverpool, (apart from Mary).

Family belief is that they were from Dun Laoghaire area. I have found a John Bergin shoemaker on 1850 Shaws directory but in North Dublin. I cant tie them up with birth records on familysearch.org (sent off for one certificate for a Theresa that looked like the right one but father was James a bricklayer not John a shoemaker).

Dun Laoghaire Rathdown project sent me some birth record info  but it  does not tie up with the dates very well at all.

They did say there was a Jane Bergin in Deansgrange cemetery who could be mother of John snr so a look up on her could be helpful please
Any suggestions on where else to go on this quest gratefully received.

I found an index of surnames mentioned in Cheshire MIs at www.freespace.virgin.net/ttindexes/cheshire and it listed Cockbain and Clare as both occuring at Barony All Saints.
As I have John Clare age 10 living with William Cockbain and Thomas and Harriet Broadhurst at Sandbach on 1841 census and am struggling to find John's parentage I was hoping there might be a clue on a gravestone. Also thought it worth checking a possible baptism at the same time although that is even more of a long shot. Any leads on this gratefully received.

That would be really kind and might help me knock down one of my brick walls re John Clare.
I am now hoping for lots of dry weather! ;D

Please could someone check baptisms at Barony All Saints and St Mary and St Nicholas Nantwich for a John Clare born abt 1831.
Also MIs/burials  from Barony All Saints for surnames Clare, Cockbain or Broadhurst.
Thank you very much.

Thanks very much for the time you have spent. I have found quite a bit about the Cockbains on later census and www.family search.org but nothing yet to connect them with the Clares or even the Broadhursts. Some of the Cockbains were born in Betley in Staffs so that may be another lead. I will keep looking.
