Not sure if you have this?

Looks to me that Marriage Reg has been mistranscribed on FreeBMD

Only two others on page, Joseph Howell and Elizabeth Ann Anderson

Trish :)

Thankyou so much for this Trish! I didn’t have this record and have been trying to find out more about Maria Canning nee Mayens? Brilliant! I am so grateful.

I would absolutely love to find out more, there are suggestions of Northern European ancestry through a DNA test. The surname is quite Germanic, but I wouldn’t know the next steps in figuring out where she originates from.

Thankyou again.

I found a map of the area dating from 1876, possibly linked to the redevelopment of the area. The map is from the Newcastle Libraries Collection, but has no copyright. The full map is linked below and I am attaching a detail. Travellers Entry is labelled just to the west of the 'on' of Pandon Bank'.

Excellent find Alan!  :-)

Boo

Thanks Boo, I am quite pleased with myself.

Thankyou this is really a wonderful find!

Thankyou for all of the support and details on possible location for the 1871 census. Some wonderful finds!

Thankyou so much! You made that seem so easy :)

Do you have any idea what ‘Travellers Entry’ could mean? Could that suggest they are not living in a building but perhaps a sort’ve encampment?

Thankyou

Hello, hopefully someone would be able to help me to decipher some text that i am struggling with. It is the Abode/Street Name On the 1871 Census for Newcastle, All Saints district. Page 25 of 39.

This is the earliest potential census record i can find for my GG Grandmother. Jane Canning born approx 1855 Great Grimsby, Lincolnshire. Her mother is Maria Canning. Surname is spelt Canning from my Great Grandfather Reuben Louis McDonald's birth certificate. However there seems to be variations on this eg. Cannon. Any support with tracking the family down prior to 1880 would be greatly appreciated as i am still learning how to utilise sources properly.

The text i can partially read says " Travellers ___ " potentially. I have attached a small screenshot rather than the full census record to hopefully help.

Kind regards

Essex Lookup Requests / Re: Young’s of Braintree/Felsted

Thankyou.

It looks like the will of Joseph Young could be one I’m looking for. The same occupation of carpenter and death year.

Looks like I will need to subscribe to the archive in order to read the file.

Essex Lookup Requests / Young’s of Braintree/Felsted
« on: Sunday 12 April 20 16:47 BST (UK)  »
I’m looking for further information on the Young family of Braintree. Two of the sons Had unusual names (my gggrandfather) Solomon and his brother Inkerman.

I’ve traced back to their grandfather William Young of Felstead. 1800’s. I want to go further: and I’m wondering if it’s a possibility that there was an anglicised surname change at some point.

They were travelling carpenters and the names being more European has left me questioning this.

I’m a bit stuck as to how to find out more, any info or advice would be great.

Essex / Re: Lindsell/Linsell/Lynsell surname

Hi,

I know this thread was started a while ago and I have only just stumbled across it.

My 3rd Great grandmother was Lucy Lindsell born 1818 in Wixoe Suffolk. But she married William Young, a carpenter of Braintree Essex. They lived in Bocking.

Her father I think was John Linsell of the Wixoe Suffolk area.

Any connections or anyone who could share information with would be wonderful. I would love to delve deeper into the family history.

Thank you
