Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Ancestry - Pro Tools - Merging Duplicates
« on: Thursday 18 July 24 15:54 BST (UK)  »
Hello all

I'm having a complete brain melt down and would like some advice please...  ???

So I have upgraded to Pro Tools on Ancestry and on the whole I've got my head around it now. That is, with the exception of merging duplicate people. Now in the early days of me doing my tree (and I have no idea how) I seem to have made a tree within a tree if that makes sense. I'll try to explain.

Working my way through the duplicates I have merged two entries for a lady and she now has her husband three times on my main tree. If I click to choose just one of them it shows a different layout of relatives each time. If I have all three clicked to view I see all relatives. They all show as being on my main tree but how the heck do I sort this? I am fearful of deleting any of them as I don't want to lose years of research.... I have attached an image to hopefully show you what I mean.

Many thanks you lovely people in my computer  ;D

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. So glad to know thats its not just me and I'm really not losing the plot!

Thrulines insists on showing the indications from the incorrect tree
This would explain why there was a major discrepancy with mine recently and I couldn't understand where it originated. I spent hours re-checking and cross-referencing everything again to make sure I had it correct. So turns out it may have been someone else not bothering to do the same!

Don't just follow the Evaluate link and accept it.
I don't - I made that mistake many years ago so always cross reference everything. What a shame not everyone does...  :(

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Ancestry Thrulines
« on: Friday 16 June 23 15:50 BST (UK)  »
Hello!

Myself, my mum and my aunt all did DNA tests on Ancestry and I am the manager for their results etc. I can view their results through my account.

I am linked to both through DNA. When I go to my Thrulines I can see and evaluate suggestions and when I do it updates my mums Thrulines too. When I then go in and view her Thrulines any that I have updated on mine also update on hers.

However, when I view my aunts Thrulines they are all still showing as needing to be evaluated. When I then click to evaluate it brings up the suggestions and DNA links on the right hand side but I don't get the option to accept and save them.

I have checked all settings on each account and as far as I can see they are all the same. Am I being a doofus?!?! What am I missing? Its driving me mad and is probably something really simple but I just can't work out what it is.

Many thanks  ;D

I agree that initially I thought it was pricey but when I looked at it in more detail I felt the price was justified. For me I was selective in those I paid for and tried to be as sure as I could that the entries I was paying for were the correct ones. As it turns out they were and there was some information in the entries I got that I have not seen anywhere else and made me quite sad and wanting to know more.

I had the same problem using Firefox. It was fixed by turning off Enhanced Tracking Protection. I found the instructions here:

Hi Kathryn

Bingo! It worked. Thank you!

Hi

My mission was to discover who my grandfathers father was. Myself, my mother and my aunt all did DNA tests and it was quite literally because of a close DNA match that came through last year that I discovered who he was. Had that person not done a DNA test I would still be working it out!

After that I expanded my research to include their family and I now have a further two close matches. It has taken me over 5 years and hours and hours of research and cross referencing but I got there. You just need to be patient and think sideways and not just backwards.

Good luck

So I have changed the settings on Chrome and it now works fine and I can see my matches. On Firefox though (which is my default browser) it still is a no show. I have tried changing every setting I can think of but....bupkis.

Guess I'll be using Chrome from now on  ;D
