So I have Carson, Stevenson and Purdon in my tree all Lanarkshire.
I have other trees but have a look here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Martin-56230#Ancestors
Carson is on my mothers side and Purdon further back. Agnes Purdon born 15 SEP 1762 • Rutherglen, Lanarkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom

These are the 2 Robert Carson aged 60, one Glasgow - Steel Street in St Andrews Parish back then,
the other is Barony in this case Shettleston.
Interestingly they didnt split out households in  Shettleston in 1841, just a long list.
CARSON ROBERT 1841 M 60 644/1 109/ 25 Glasgow Lanark
CARSON ROBERT 1841 M 60 622/ 196/ 11 Barony Lanark

I do think that the Shettleston one is the right person, the rest of the familiy are on the next page. When I say the census is suspect I just mean his origin and occupation cannot be verified. If have plenty cases where an 1851 Census and 1841 dont match up.

The point here is the only doc that I have with an age and possible birth location for Robert Carson are the 1841 Census. I am trying to find something/anything else. Given he died before 1851, findig  anything else has been a dead end. The other issue of course is given the timeline between 1841-1850, both the Epsicopal Church split due to the Oxford movement and the Church of Scotland split. So not surprisingly records are hard to come by.

"You have listed Robert’s wife and children in your first post, which you must assume to be correct, but when those same children with correct ages, and same wife appear with him in the census, you say it is suspect. That makes little sense to me."

Fair query however

On the actual Census he is on a separate page, if they had all been on one page I would totally get your logic. I am not ruling the census out, just strange 2 people identical names ages and occupations in same place in 1841 Census. I get 1841 was rounded ages, etc. It is also odd that they family are not listed together, again it is not unknown.

On the occupation, on Baptism records he is listed as a Weaver in 1838,1840 then Beadle 1842, 1843 (no child born 1841).

So the 1845 I can rule out, that was a sailor who drowned.

The 1847 corresponds to a Robert Carson, Labourer also aged 60 (in 1841 census) living at Steel St,  the death record also cites Steel Street based on that I dont think it is him.
This is him in 1841 CARSON ROBERT 1841 M 60 644/1 109/ 25 Glasgow Lanark

His 3rd wife is listed as a Widow in the 1851 Census, so seems likely he is dead by then.
Last child is born (assuming he is father) is in 1848

This is my issue with the 1841 Census 2 Robert Carson both aged 60 both from Ireland, both labourers. Not impossible, but the one I am looking for was literate, he was a publican, Church Beadle, and a Weaver. So I think the 1841 Census is suspect.
