Hi MonicaL

On George; the last I have is his marriage on 21 December 1940 to Mary Ann McDonald. He was 33 and Mary Ann was 37.
Their son John - in fact Mary's son (George was a stepfather) John (McDonald) was born as far as I can make out on 14 September 1922.
Mary Ann died: 9 April 1982, Culduthel Hospital Inverness, aged 78.
George was born in 1907 but I can't find any death...

Thanks for the links - re-registered on Ancestry and have printed off to have a look later.
To confirm Mary Ann was born in Kirkmichael on 1st July 1903. She appears in the 1911 census, having moved with the rest of the family to Abernethy.
The information on George's possible birth date and his parents' marriage are quite probable too.
As George was a Private in the Seaforth Highlanders at the age of 33 (and engaged in 1940 in War Service) it may be that there are Records held somewhere on the Highlanders that may have further information but could be a dead end?

Heavens Monica, you're a real miner of information.  I wish I had a little more time.  Anyway just to say I'll see about Christina and her line.

John's occupation from the 1940 marriage was Foreman, Manure Works......!!
You mentioned in Christina's Ancestry listing has photos, which I'll see about accessing as I used to have a sub on Ancestry, but this current line is a new idea of mine.  You couldn't let me know if the lady George Cruickshank married in 1940, Mary Ann Cruickshank nee McDonald, daughter of John McDonald (Stone Mason) and Margaret McDonald nee Grant, has a photo of her could you??
Golly - you're good at this.  When I have a little time I'll have a look at the other things you've found out.
Many thanks
Jon

Hi MonicaL

Thanks for posting! George's son did marry but it was late in life and they had no children.  It may as you say be an idea to get hold of the marriage certificate in any case re-his father (well really his step father).
Yes you have the right Mary Ann - born in 1903.

As for George Cruickshanks: married 21 Dec 1940, age 33 in a Methodist church. Parents given as John Cruickshanks and Christina: ms Stephen. Witnesses were Edward Chisolm of Glenurquhart Rd, Inverness and Norah H Chisolm, Dunolly, Clashnacarry

Inverness / George Cruickshank(s)

I'm trying to trace any living relatives of George Cruickshank(s) who lived in Kessock Court North, Inverness. He was married to Mary Ann McDonald who was originally from Tomintoul. She died in Inverness in 1982.  By this time George had died, as she was noted as a Widow in her death certificate. However there's no trace of George's death in the Register!  Mary Ann had a son but he died with no heirs, and I don't believe George had heirs; but he may have had siblings?? However there isn't a record of his birth; perhaps that would be the case if he had been adopted??
George was a Private in the Seaforth Highlanders when he got married in 1940, at which point he was living in Crown Drive Inverness. On the death certificate for Mary Ann George was noted as a 'fisherman'.  Seems a real dead end.....

I'm another going slightly off beat on this one as I'm looking into the McDonald family who stayed in Millburn near Tomintoul. I can trace their history back to John McDonald who was born in Kirkmichael (around 1767 - date not exact) and died somewhere between 1851-1854. He was married to an Isobel Grant in 1803 and had a son Robert McDonald born 28 February 1804 in Kirkmichael.
There was a Mary Ann McDonald who died in Inverness in 1982, Daughter of John McDonald and Margaret Jane Grant. Mary Ann married a Cruickshank in December 1940. I'm trying to find out if any of Mary Ann's line in the McDonalds is still around as she and George didn't appear to have children and her son John died in 1994. As far as I can tell she had 3 brothers, William died 1905, Alexander died 1997 and there was also a Robert, born in 1905, but I can't find a date of death unless he's still with us at the age of 93/94.  Great age if he is!  There were also two sisters, Jane who died in the year she was born -1906, and a Liza who died in 1988.  Any leads or help would be much appreciated.

Is there an Edward Anderson in your research; probably in his 20s or early 30s around 1930/35?
