Ireland / Re: Looking for Irish documents - Stuart, Hamilton, Fowley, early 1800s
« on: Monday 08 April 24 10:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am an Irish person looking at my roots. I have one family my great grandmother who was the daughter of a man named John Stuart, from Cullen and  Brownhill, co. Leitrim. He was apparently the son of a man named David Stewart, who died in Leitrim in The late 1800’s. As he reported the death according to the death records. I haven’t got any further back yet, but I just thought it was interesting.

Dublin / Re: The Liddy cup for amateur footballers in Dublin northside.

Paul, and anyone else interested, I have been going through old family photos today, and I have come across one of a number of children with a ? Nursemaid. The reverse of the photo has a message written in pencil and an annotation by my aunt, Alice Josephine liddy saying ‘ the O’Shea family Dublin’  I thought that perhaps the nursemaid was a relation, but it would appear from all the foregoing material that the mother of these children was related to my liddy family. Genealogy is fascinating. Thanks Caroline

Thanks for that civil record of the marriage. Need to check the grandmothers birth certificate again.  Looks like she was a honeymoon baby. They married in Cavan and went to Colchester before the child’s birth. Still looking for info on the military record.

Family History Beginners Board / 74foot in colchester 1870’s
« on: Tuesday 22 October 19 22:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi I am trying to find out about my ggrandfather. My Paternal grandmother was Susan Ann Farrelly born 20.12.1874. And registered early 1875. I have a copy of her birth certificate obtained from uk Gro. The birth certificate states his reg as 11th foot and his rank as lance corporal I think . The pension records from 1880 give a Peter Farrelly (his name) and the rank of sargeant, which is the name and rank given on my grandparents marriage certificate. Basically my question is where can I find out about his military service , where he enlisted etc. also there is some confusion about my  ggrandmother whose surname is either Gibson or Gibbons and I hope the military record would help me sort it out. His number according to ancestry is 16Bde/70. Any help appreciated

Longford / Re: Entire 1790 Longford Voters List transcribed

I would love to look at those Longford voters lists. I am looking for family name Navan, spelt like the town. None of the links in the thread worked. First names in this family include Robert, Samuel and William. Samuel Navan born about 1787 and died at aged 92 was the grandfather of my maternal gggrandfather. So my  4 x g grandfather. There is a family grave in Newtownforbes. Just wondering can I push back another bit. This family also has a connection to family Anderson in Cavan who are listed in a fragment of the 1821 Cavan census, which I stumbled across the other day. I would be very grateful for any help or a working link.
