Westmeath / Maria Johnston born Rochfortbridge 1838
« on: Thursday 08 February 18 11:52 GMT (UK)  »
Trying to find any info on this lady....her father was Robert Hardcastle Johnston
Born Newtown, Westmeath 1818....been trying to find some evidence of this in Irish records.
Have the above information from marriage certs and headstone.  Robert went on to have 3 sons in England, but didn't marry until 10 years after their births...so wonder if he still had a wife in Ireland.
He did give his daughter Maria away at her wedding in 1889 (Cirencester to Frederick Gibb) so was her father.
Any help gratefully accepted.
Thanks Jill

Thank you very much for that information, most useful in my research...I was told there was properties involved...would these amounts have just been cash or could these have been total assets including property if this was the case...
Thank you very much.  Jilly

Would anyone be able to find if there was a Will in the name of Robert Hardcastle Johnston died 1901/2,  at 3 Royal Terrace, Weston-super-Mare....or his wife Annie Johnston died 1906.
Or if there is a free online source to look this up.
Thanks very much  Jilly

Thanks Jane....believe me I have tried...this lady Maria has only just come to light !  I have been researching for about 12 years...that is the exciting thing you never know what will be uncovered, even when you think you have discovered all your relatives.

Thanks again

Hi Arranroots....

Just wondered if you were able to find any death record for Maria Gibbs...I do think it may have been in Gloucester  As I mentioned she was born 1838, married 1887, I have a copy of the marriage notice in the Gloucester Citizen ...I also think she is on the 1901 census, as living in Gloucester from information contributors have kindly given me.

Any help please, much appreciated.
Thanks  J

Herefordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Maria Gibbs (nee Johnston born 1838 Ireland

Hi Suz,  Thanks for taking the time to reply to me....I do not subscribe to Ancestry...therefore my information is limited....I am sorry if you say the dates differ ?  not intentional.  With regards Ross-on-Wye...I found a Maria who died there and her age was 77 this would tie up with my Maria Gibbs nee Johnston who was born circa 1838....Robert William Johnston of Ross-on-Wye was my grandfather and my father Charles Johnston was also born there in 1902.  I have only recently discovered Maria, she was obviously a daughter left in Ireland by a previous marriage ?? of Robert Hardcastle Johnston...she first appears on the 1861 census. She married a Frederick Gibbs in 1887, when she would have been 49 ? so no children, in 1991 she is a widow... when as I mentioned her other step brother was lodging with her....then I find this death in 1914 which I though might be her, ending her days in Ross-on-Wye at the home of her step brother, his wife Emily died young at 41 years, leaving 6 children, so wondered if she came to help out.....Robert William died 1926 age 59....intriguing for me...Thanks for your help..J
