Hi Gabe

I’ve been looking on findmypast to see when Henry King joined 70th Surrey Foot but I can’t seem to find anything about him the year he joined or the year he discharged I even checked ancestry as I have access to that but information is  limited.

Is there ever chance you could look if you have access to findmypast?.

Regards

Stephen

Hi Gabe

Thanks for the info Henry King must of returned to England with 70th sometime in 1880 and left army.

I think there must be another service record detailing more information about him than just medal roll but maybe they haven’t digitised most of those records for viewing.

Regards

Stephen

Hi Gabe

Henry King was on 16th September 1857 in Chipstead, Surrey, England he was married twice first to Ellen Baker from 20 July 1884 to 20 January 1906 she died they had no children.

He then met Ellen Weedon (My great great grandmother) though they got married years later after all there kids were born on 20 December 1920. Henry died in December 1939 in Reigate, Surrey.

Do you also have information on what 70th Foot did in India in April 1879 and also 1880 I presume Henry King was back in England and left army.

Hi Gabe

I have a photo of Henry Kings Afghan medal record which I found recently I was going to attach it but the file is big.

I also found a book on Sir Michael Biddulphs march from Quetta to Kandahar called March From The Indus To Helmund and Back 1878 to 1879 do you know about the book?

Is there any chance Henry King can be added to your database?.

Stephen

Hi Gabe

I have attached a photo of Henry King serving in territorial force later on in life and it says 70th (Surrey) Regiment of Foot as previous military but it's a bit difficult to read but to me that is what it says. Can you make it out being that as well.

Hi

Thanks for clarifying that it makes more sense now where was 70th Foot stationed in India it sounds like he did march from Quetta to Kandahar my uncle was the one who told me when he was younger he was told that Henry King did march from Kabul to Kandahar I need to look up his army records for when was in 70th Foot but Ancestry does not have access to that looks like National Archives I will send 1914 stuff soon but I need to get it off my iPhone onto my laptop.

Hi

My name is Stephen Paternoster and my great great grandfather Henry King served in 70th (Surrey) Regiment of Foot and recently I found out within family he did kabul to Kandahar march but did 70th East Surrey do the march because on your website it says they did not do march but were present at Battle of Kandahar. I need to find his army record of when he was in 70th East Surrey Regiment but I'm not sure where to start or how to find his record I have his record from 1914 when he joined Territorial Force I'll send that in next message unfortunately he did have medals but they are now lost they went to his eldest son he never had kids and the medals are now lost forever.

Regards
