Cando...thank you very much for that information! Ican see i have some corrections to make to my tree! If they werent in the habit of naming their children after themselves, it might be easier.... You must really have a head for this sort of thing!  The information about james Humes father, John T. Nelson is especially helpful as i had not come across that info before.

Cando..thank you for your offer, but now im unsure of all my information!  I will tell you what i know as fact. My grandfather, James Hume Nelson (1872- 1919) married my grandmother Bella Hunter (1875 - 1951) in Monkstown, Ireland. Bella’s father was John Elias Hunter (1825- 1895)- married to Joanna Fitzgerald (1845-)....beyond this im uncertain, but my great aunt wrote a letter indicating Bella’s great grandmothers maiden name was Dunne and they had a family burial  plot in Drumcondra churchyard, Dublin . She also said that  Bella’s grandfather was a solicitor and her father was solicitor general of all of Ireland (an exaggeration i believe, but that was my connection to Arthur Dunn) Based on that information and “hints” on ancestry.com, i came up with the following:  John Elias Hunter was the son of  John Arthur Hunter(1786 - ) and grandson of William Hunter (1760-1794) and Hester Dunn(1764-). Looking at some of my dates, it does appear that i may be off a generation, or possible even have mistaken siblings.  As far as the Nelson side of my family goes; i believe they are primarily from Edinburgh, Scotland and i havent gotten very far with that research. I plan to take what information i have and likely will hire a genialogist to help fill in!! I do think it might be fairly easy for an experienced researcher as there seems to be a lot of information about these families.
Thank you for your interest!

Its very possible ive made an error...and i would not totally trust my tree as i am a complete novice (and not very good!) at this; so much so that ive decided to hire a researcher to fill in the Hunter/Nelson part of my tree. I would be happy to share what i have, but not even sure how to do this—- or if it would be helpful to you. The paragraph youve included is the one that Mr Freeman gave me at Drumchondra. He did tell me that earlier records of ancestors buried in the Dunn plot were lost in a fire so he was not able to provide that information.

Im not sure if the discussion about Arthur Dunne, esq is still ongoing but i might have some helpful info. Arthur is my great, great, great, great grandfather (1737 - 1814) and my research indicates he was married to Jane Gordon. Their son, William Hunter was my great, great, great grandfather and was married to Hester Dunne. I have a letter from my great aunt describing their family plot at Drumchondra Church in Dublin (protestant church of Ireland) which i visited when i was in Ireland last year. I found the plot—-which is very very old and all writings on the stones are gone!  With the assistance of a wonderful gentleman, Brian Freeman, who is historian of the cemetary he wrote up the church records of who is actually in the plot...which he referred to as the Dunn family plot. He also included a copy of the inscription for Arthur Dunn, esq which describes him as the crown solicitor of the province of Connaught selected by the king and country for this post in year 1798 during one of most eventful years in Irelands history. You might be able to locate this info online as i found it at one time, but have not been able to again!
