Sorry typing mistake. They married in 1846 in Clackmannan ( not 1856) . First daughter is Agnes born 1847 who married a Michael McQueeney born 1846 in Ireland and died c 1910.

Michael McQueeny and Agnes Izatt are my 3 x great grandparents.  Their daughter Agnes born 18/4/1876 married  John McGuin[n]ess (my surname) and then when he died in a mining accident in Blantyre in c 1903, she married a neighbour named Francis Cassidy in 1904.

That is great, Kenbro  :)

Guessing this was Agnes' family group www.wikitree.com/wiki/Bonar-83

Monica

If one of you guys can link Agnes Bonar's daughter Agnes Brown born c 1825 to a James Izatt born c 1824 (married 5 Oct 1846 Clackmannan [see: https://www.ancestry.com/mediaui-viewer/tree/162190477/person/152141650740/media/db397ece-2208-4f63-96d2-11fa710c32c1]), then they will be my direct ancestors and the profile for[Brown-48044] https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Brown-48044 can be merged with my profile for Agnes Brown [Brown-109516] https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Brown-109516.  I am struggling to work out whether the mother is Agnes Wylie or Agnes Bonar (aka Bonnar).  I have tried to research both possibilities in the past.

Do you know which mill your great granny worked in?

Hi acorn baby

No, unfortunately I have not discovered that information yet.  I only know that she worked in a mill based on her marriage certificate from 1940, which recorded her occupation as being a "jute preparer".  My granddad is no longer around, and my mum only remembers her granny working at Timex when she was a child (in the 50s/60s) and later in a cafe in a shopping complex before she was killed by a drunk driver in 1970.  I live in Australia and have only been to Dundee once (and didn't really get to see much when I was there) so I don't really know which shops - mum thinks it was near the main street (would that be the Overgate?).  She emigrated to Australia when she was 18 so she is a bit fuzzy on the details now!

Just in case it helps identifying the date of the photo down the track - my great granny's name was Margaret Glancy married name Thain (husband William Thain, who was a carpenter/builder, I believe).  On her marriage certificate in 1940 (she was about aged 36 then) she was recorded as living at 17 Lawrence St, Dundee. She lived in North Tay St, Dundee when she was young with her parents.  My granddad lived in Helmsdale Avenue, Kirkton when he was growing up. Not sure if Margaret lived there though as he was raised by his grandparents.

Regards

Nikki, Australia.

:) :) :)
I am looking for my BROWN ancestors.
I have come to a halt with

Andrew Brown born c 1792-1851 in Clackmannan.

Does anyone have information about Andrew Brown's parents?

His children were all born in Fife: Lochgelly, Lumphinnans, Cowdenbeath areas.

His son was David Frew Brown born 1834 (married to Ann Shepherd)
His son was John Brown born 1862 (married to Isabella Dewar)
His son was John Brown born 1891 (married to Mary McCartney)

Any information would be very helpful
Thank you

I found this old thread when searching the site for Dundee related threads.

My great granny was a jute mill worker and I was looking at one of the women in your photo and I think it could possibly be her but I am not certain.  I haven't got any photos of her when she was a young woman only one from when she was in her 40s but I can see similarities, particularly the shape of the nose.

Do you think your photo could have been taken in the 1920s?

I have attached a snip of the woman in your photo who I think could possibly be my great granny as well as the one of her when she is in her 40s to hear what others think.

Thanks, Nikki.

I have a cousin searching for his Birth mothers FAMILY from Mullinger!  His mother is deceased - she was born in Mullinger in 1945

But the names I am searching are Burns and Costello...

Sorry - the name Mullinger just jumped out at me..

all the best with your search.

xin

Hi Finley

I saw you were searching the name "Costello". I am also researching the name Costello, as my 2nd great grandmother was named Christina Costello born 1869 who married a Francis Hammond - they lived in Rutherglen, Scotland. I think my Costellos originally come from Co. Kerry, Ireland (her father Michael Costello born c1841).

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Any DNA experts fancy trying to crack this?
« on: Saturday 05 September 20 02:19 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for a birth father who may or may not be called McGuinness.

Have a maternal half brother who tested, so now can say which side matches are on on gedmatch....but it would seem this family met before a couple of generations between.

The only paternal 3rd cousin match is father unknown..as i found out after i spent months building her tree only to find she used her husband's family in the tree..She won't upload to gedmatch.

I have a mirror tree containing all the paternal matches at 4th cousin stage..looking for a common ancestor.

I can't work it out..spend hours every day..gedmatch is A919901 should you fancy joining in.. ::)

Child born in mullingar westmeath left Ireland aged 5 now in Midlands Birmingham. Birth mother found years ago now deceased. She gave a name..but who knows.

Any help would be appreciated, a few have tried and given up. It's also uploaded to genesis,DNA land,my heritage and ftdna.
Many thanks

Hi there, I came across this post when researching my surname, McGuinness.  You may have already solved this by now but I thought I would reply just in case you had not.

I ran the kit number you refer to above and I just wanted to let you know the results.  We matched on 11 shared segments over 8 chromosomes.  They are only small segments, the largest being 4.3cM however on the chromosomes where there are several, they add up to 7-9cM. I am aware that people do not believe these small segments to be of any value, however, I disagree.  I have found these broken segments useful, in identifying half cousin relationships.

So in saying that, the person you are assisting matches on my Paton/McGuinness line (3x great grandparents).  She matches with a confirmed 3rd cousin on the same line.
I have DNA matches on Ancestry with the same surname as your person; and others with the surname in their trees (who are mutual matches with others who are connected with this same line).

I am reviewing the results against the segments in DNA Painter and my initial thoughts are that the connection is closer than 3 x great grandparents and could actually be in my grandfather's generation but I need to look at this further.

Happy to assist if you are still trying to work this one out.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Different cM between mather & daughter matches
« on: Tuesday 01 September 20 16:34 BST (UK)  »
I have dna matches where I am related to them through both my mum and my dad and have quite often found that I will have a higher match than my mum does with some of them.  There is never a massive difference in cm and they are all quite distant.

So somewhere far back my mum and dad may have shared a common ancestor.  They both had ancestors who lived in the same county in Ireland so it is very possible.
