Essex Lookup Requests / Re: Johnson Family Inquiry for Feering
« on: Thursday 12 March 20 06:45 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you so much for that Annette. It is very helpful.
I am wondering if you can also tell me if the "Independent Church of Great Coggeshall " would be the same church as St Peter ad Vincula Church?

Again, my thanks.

Looking for maybe the cemetery in Feering where my GGG grandfather is buried . I understand there is more than one cemetery there and I cannot find any evidence of this grave site. These are the details I have. I would be most grateful for any information anyone can find on this site as I am writing a book on my Johnson family. Details I have are:

Ready for in such an hour as ye think not the son of man cometh
Also of Elizabeth his wife Who died February 24th 1850 Aged 76 years.

Monaghan / Re: Plunkett family
« on: Monday 27 January 20 03:23 GMT (UK)  »
I too have Plunkett cousins.

There is a bit of a mystery here!
These known Plunkett cousins I have descend from Carlisle Bruce Plunkett and his wife C Parsons 1907-2000. Her mother was A Parsons 1876-1930, grandmother Susan Gibson 1846-1930, her father James Robert Gibson 1825 - 1860 who was the son of the Rev James Gibson of Lislooney Presbyterian Church in Ireland  for 34 years.
Many known Plunkett cousins who share DNA with me and we know where we are connected
(the closest being Edward George Plunkett), also share DNA with other family connections found  in the Tydavnet/ Clones/ Killen areas of County Monaghan. These are Catholic families. But I am intrigued to know where the connection might be!
Best wishes to all.

Westmorland / Re: Bolton Westmorland
« on: Saturday 18 January 20 09:54 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you for your reply.

The letter is a  letter which has been handed down through the years with accompanying photos. It was written by the Rev James Gibson in 1856 in response to his granddaughter's curiosity about our family history. He wrote the letter from "home" in Glaslough, County Monaghan, after retiring from a 34 year ministry at Lislooney Presbyterian Church. The letter we have is a copy of course, but in his handwriting. We have other letters to compare his handwriting to.  He related the story told to him by his father, Alexander Gibson ( who was born in Cronery on Dec 11 th 1711) The names of the men in the preceding generations were James, Alexander, James ... with brothers Samuel, William and John.
My 3xgreat grandfather ( the Rev James Gibson) told us his grandfather James was at the Siege of Londonderry. That "the first of the family to come to Ireland , from Scotland was "Captain Gibson". He said the name was unknown to his father. He went on to say that the family had originally come from Bolton in Westmorland before going to Scotland. There were Gibsons in Bolton with our family names in the 1600 and 1700's.  Most of the long letter has been proven to be correct. Even to addresses in Dublin where it was stated family lived.
I hope this helps. Thank you again.

Cavan / Re: Young Family of Bailieborough Information Needed
« on: Tuesday 14 January 20 00:34 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you to all for the valuable information. Unfortunately, this below,  is all I know of the Youngs ... an excerpt from a letter written to us by my 3xgreat grandfather the Rev James Gibson in 1856. The family were staunch Presbyterian or Church of Ireland members.

"With respect to your mother's family, permit me to observe, your Grandfather and Grandmother were descended from two families in the County Cavan of the name Young. Her Grandfather's family resided at Cootehill and the branches of it were respectable from their position in society. Her Grandmother's family resided in Bailieboro and the branches of it were also respectable, some of the branches of it possessed property to a considerable amount in the parish of Killinkare and in other places. Her brother Rev James Young resided in Bailieboro . He was a beneficed clergyman , a Justice of the Peace in County Cavan and a possessor of considerable property. Another brother who resided in County Meath, was Captain of the Killinkare Yeomanry, who were his own tenants."

Just entering this incase anyone might see some link there to others.
Many, many thanks to all.

Westmorland / Bolton Westmorland
« on: Sunday 12 January 20 04:24 GMT (UK)  »
I am researching my family of Gibson who originally came from  Bolton, Westmorland , then moved on to Scotland, until going to Ireland as a "Scottish military officer" in the late 1600's. This information came from an 1856 letter written by family we received.
It puzzles me as to why people at this time would leave Bolton and go to the Planting of Ireland in the late 1600's. Why via Scotland? My searches have not made any picture and reasons for this move clear.
Could anyone offer me any information, references etc to this part of my family history puzzle?
Many thanks for any information you may be able to help me with.
