Thanks for looking, Maggie. My Dr. (John Simpson) Howard was back in India by August 26, 1858. I was hoping this was him returning with his wife. He had been the Surgeon Superintendent on the Emma Eugenia's 10 Feb 1858 England to Australia voyage.

Ha! Why yes, I did mean 1858 not 1585!

"Dr Howard and wife" left on Emma Eugenia from Australia to Singapore on 6 July 1858. I was hoping to find someone with this list (or where to find it) so I could check if "Dr. Howard" is John Simpson Howard, and Mary Ann (Sheehan) Howard his wife.

https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/66009327?searchTerm=Howard&searchLimits=exactPhrase%7C%7C%7CanyWords%7C%7C%7CnotWords%7C%7C%7CrequestHandler%7C%7C%7CdateFrom&fbclid=IwAR2QDpzynZYuFZA_a6FLxSHAgpN9ojkObSm-TQOCpciudIMRwrgYayHtFa0

Does two months for the arrival in Singapore seem excessive? Perhaps stops on the way?

On 08 July 1585 the Emma Eugenia went on to Singapore. A "Dr. Howard and wife" were passengers on this leg of the voyage. Does anyone have the passenger list or know where I should look for this? I am looking for Dr. John Simpson Howard and wife Mary Ann (Sheehan) Howard. Thanks!

Hi Debra, I've been unable to find this:

" In 1851 they are both with their uncle Alexander in Westminster. "  Can you point me in the right direction? I am very interested in this, as Eleanor Catherine Mitchell Sheen and her four children (including her one month old son!) apparently were admitted to the work house for one day (31 Oct 1848). I've very interested in what happened to this family. Mary Anne ends up marrying a surgeon and moving to India ...

Cheers,
Joanne

Oh my goodness! You have solved so many mysteries for me! Thank you so very much! I have been banging my head against a wall trying to figure out how Ann Maria Lloyd-Williams (nee:  Mitchell) fit in the family. Wow!  :D  :) :D

John Simpson Howard was born - 11 FEB 1830 • Bangalor, Madras, India. I am not sure about the 1860 marriage in Kensington. Howard had been in the UK for medical schooling, but had returned to India by 26 August 1858.

Also, later on Mary Ann travelled from England back to Bombay with a "John Alexander Sheen", so I was hoping this was her brother.

Thanks for checking! I always appreciate another set of eyes!

Hi - Yes, pretty sure of the birthday (census records). I'm not sure about the marriage in Australia. I know my GGGGrandfather was John Simpson Howard. He married Mary Ann (Last name unknown). I was hoping it was the marriage record found in Australia. I've not found any other records. And, as always, it could be a totally different John Simpson Howard. The coincidences were just looking promising.

sandiep - Thank you so much for the follow up! Unfortunately, this Mary Anne Sheehan is 10 years too old. The co-incidence is very interesting though.

I was *hoping* for a ship-board romance between Ship Surgeon Superintendent, John Simpson Howard (my GGGGrandfather), and a Mary Ann Sheehan who was born in 1843, London. They subsequently get married in Australia, and carry on to live in India. However, I can't make the facts fit.  :'(
