Sarah Hawkes was born in Boreham, Essex in 1820. Daughter of Joseph Hawkes and Maria Weal. She was baptised on the 17 May 1820 in Boreham.

She married Joseph Clark(e) (b 1815 in Greenwich) in Little Thurrock on 24 Aug 1837.

I have them in the 1851 census living in Limehouse with three daughters Sarah Elizabeth b 1843, Ann Maria b 1846 and Susan b 1849 (all of whom I can find in the GRO). Her brother William b 1823 is also lodging with them that helps to confirm I've got the right entry.

In 1861 they are living in St Mary, Lambeth still as a whole family.

After that, nothing. I cannot find any certain deaths for Sarah or Joseph nor any marriages for the daughters so any help would be gratefully received.

TIA,
Richard.

The photo must date from between her two marriages give the "French" surname on the back.

Thanks everyone, I'm off to create a mini tree for her!

Richard

1901 has a Nellie Minnear born 1893 Newsham**, Northumberland
She married Robert G French 1910 as Eleanor Mennear
Remarried 1916 to William Collins.
That looks about right.

It's on the back of an old photo I bought yesterday.

The photograph was based on Newsham, near Blyth.

Thanks,

These two occupations come from the marriage register entry of a distant relation. Father and son.

Thank for the link. I'd assumed it meant he was living at an alternative address...

Richard.

Thanks everyone. The marriage was in Jan 1881 in Walmer, Kent so that lines up with the witnesses marriage.
