Hello:
My maiden name is Marks. My 4th GGF was Ignatius Marks who emigrated to New York City and married Catherine Flood (1836-1906) also an Irish immigrant there in 1851. They were RC. He called himself Nathaniel. His son also Ignatius was born in 1853 and called himself Nathan. I believe Nathaniel's dates are 1829-1854. He died quite young. I suspect he was of a Marks family from Birr, as Ignatius was a family name, and the name "Ignatius" Marks seems to have been rare elsewhere in Ireland. Also, my Nathaniel listed his occupation as "butcher".There was a Nathaniel born in 1779 and another born in 1806 in Parsonstown. Perhaps his father/grandfather?
I wonder if James marks retains his history of the Marks family from Birr.
Can anyone else help or refer me to sources that will verify Nathaniel's identity? Thanks in advance for any help provided.
