As others have said, an account with Family Search is free and its an amazingly useful resource.

You need to be signed in to search or view any records, the link JenB gave you is for the image of the actual burial register that gives the grave number

This link, again on Family Search so you need to be signed in to see the image, is for the grave register and shows that the grave wasn't purchased, and lists 3 people in that grave - to me they appear to be unrelated which is what I'd expect in a grave where the rights to burial were not purchased.

Thank you Boo. I have created an account with Family Search, and have been able to see the burial record as per the link. Your information is quite eye opening, I didnt know that. However it dos seem to have been a fairly common practice year ago.  Thanks again

This looks like the one

Thank you so much for that. I now have the exact location of his grave, so tomorrow I will be searching for it, as the cemetery is literally over the road from where I live!!   Thanks again, your help is very appreciated.

There is also a notice in the Sunderland Daily Echo and Shipping Gazette 10 Aug 1939:

" Forrest - At the Municipal Hospital, on August 6, aged 48 years James Henry (better known as Abe), the beloved husband of Mary Ann Forrest. Internment at Sunderland Cemetery on Friday; service at home 1.15. Friends kindly invited. Deeply mourned."

William

Thank you for your replies to my question. They have both been very helpful, and have confirmed what I already believed.

Your help is appreciated

Is it possible he was cremated? Those records are more difficult to find in my experience.
rayard.

Hi.. Thanks for your response. I did think that, and, as you say, Cremation records are very difficult to locate. However, it now appears that he was buried, and in the cemetery that I thought , so just need to find the plot now. Thanks again

Hi

Just a thought, check the 1939 register for any known family members, especially his wife.

If found that should give the residence and possibly the Parish (for church records)

Hope this helps

Chris

Thanks for your response Chris.    I have all the information around this, but I couldnt find confirmation of his burial, or the plot he is in. Im hoping he is in the same plat as my grandmother, but cant get the confirmation. Thanks again

Hello

Thanks very much for your reply. Its been very difficult to get the correct info on Bobby Snr's death. so thanks for shedding more light on it. I'd be very happy to receive a copy of the inquest report. My understanding, from what my mam told me when I was younger, my Nana, Mary Ann, was awarded compensation for the "children", my mam included. However it seems that what actaully happened is that my nana would take the children along to th court offices, and explain ghat the kids needed clothes etc, and she would be given a sum of money, in cash. She would then gives the kids a penny or so to get sweets, and she would then head of to the pub, where she was a well known regular. :( As for young Bobby, I accidentally came across his grave in Sunderland Cemetery just a few weeks ago. I live on St Aidans Est, and use the cemetery daily for dog walks. I took a short cut and there it was, in front of me. So thanks for the offer of a picture, but I have one already.  I also believe that Bobby snr is also buried in the same Cemetery, where my nana was buried alongside him, when she died in 1969. I have the location of the grave, which is unmarked at the moment.

Thanks again

Danny

In 1935/6 ayoung man, Robert (Bobby) Brewerton, was killed in an accident at Bartrams. He was crushed to death by a large piece of metal which was being swung into place.  He was just 25. I have the Echo report of the inquest, where a verdict of accidental death was recorded. Bobby was a father of 2, with a 3rd child due.  In 1948, another man was crushed to death at the same yard, this time by a lorry. This other man was Bobby Brewerton, senior. To compound the misery of this family, young Bobby's wife, Etty, died aged just 26, leaving 3 children orphaned. I know this through family tree research, as Bobby Snr married my grandmother, Mary Ann Forrest, in 1943. My own Grandmother had already lost 2 husbands previously.   It was a tough life in those days
