Kent / Re: Jane Tilly nee Ormston.

I dont think theres any mention on the census of her being a servant. She seems to stay in the Boughton under Blean area her whole life. Her husband was an agricultural labourer from the area.

Many thanks for the replies.
I also have the parents down as John Ormston and Christiana Grey. There doesnt seem to be a connection to the sea;Boughton under Blean is a few miles inland, and John Tilly was an ag lab.It looks like her father or brother was there to witness the marriage, but she seems to be the only one who lived in the area. Its a mystery as to how she met him,and why she travelled South to spend her life with him.

Kent / Jane Tilly nee Ormston.

My 4xgreat grandparents were John Tilly and Jane Ormston. They married in 1st August 1820 Boughton under Blean.
All census returns up to 1861 has Jane born in Kent, apart from the final 1861 entry, which initially has her born in Northumberland;this has been crossed out and replaced with Durham.
More extensive research and DNA matches suggest she was born in Durham, with Ormston/Ormiston being a well known name in the area.
Ive long wondered what caused Jane to move South, and marry a man from Kent. Please can anyone help with that?Any documents or records that might shine a light on it.

Many thanks.

Kent / Robert Jacob
« on: Thursday 26 June 25 11:33 BST (UK)  »
Hello.
Ive posted quite a bit about my Jacob family up as far as Robert in previous posts, but i still cant get beyond him with any real certainty.
Robert Jacob married Mary Ann Pierce Feb 9th 1746 Boughton under Blean.Their 1st child,so far as i can see,was Robert bapt 9th April 1748 Boughton under Blean.
Where im stuck is Robert Snrs birth.I think his death is 6th Sept 1792 Chilham, and his wife Mary 18th Feb 1797 Chilham.I think she was born in 1726.
Theres a birth in Faversham for a Robert 16th Oct 1709 to Miles and Mary, and another 19th April 1722 Westwell to Robert.
My family has a long association with the Faversham/Boughton/Chilham area,Faversham being my home town, and my great grandfather Thomas was a foreman at the Gunpowder works. So at first glance, the Faversham birth seems more likely, but for me,it feels a bit early. He would have been 37 when he married Mary.
Looking at the other birth,Westwell is about 10 miles from Faversham,so not that far.
Please can anyone find anything that would help me establish which of these two Roberts is mine.Maybe the age at death of the Robert whose registered in Chilham,or anything else that might help.
Many thanks.

Im struggling to find Philidelphias baptism on Ancestry. In fact, there seems to be very little info on there. Are you able to see any siblings for Philidelphia? Also, can anyone see a marriage for a William Parris to Mary?
Many thanks.

Thanks for the replies.
I think QueenoftheWest has cracked it,as Paris, and its varients, was one of the surnames i hoped id find.Ive come across Phillis, and Philly, being used in place of Philidelphia. This is a DNA match who shares several matches that go back to Paris/Parris/Parrish,and i was trying to link them up.
I will have a look at her parents,to try and see how she fits in.
Many thanks for the help.

Thanks for the replies.
I think Harting is unlikely, given the distance.
I think it was legal to marry at 12 back then,so 15 is possible.
Uwens is quite an unusual name.I did wonder if it might be a misspelling of Owens.

Lee.
