Not able to locate her in 1881 either as Saxon, Robinson or West. Not found another marriage either.

Derbyshire / Joseph George West B.1832?

My G.G.M. Ann Saxon (Robinson) married this chap in 1871 in Whitwell Derbyshire.

She was the widow of Thomas Saxon 1838-1858.
In 1861 she was back in Whitwell with her father Robert Robinson and my G.F.
Try as I might I can find nothing for Joseph George West other than:
At marriage born 1832. Occupation Engine Tenter Residence Whitwell
Father Joseph George West Pianoforte Maker.
Died 1876

Can anyone give me a hint please?

Midlothian / Saxty family Edinburgh

Hi there,

I am trying to glean some information about a J. Saxty of Edinburgh in late 1929 to 1930.
I have been on Scotland's people and knocked up a quick family tree in Family Search which shows it can only really be either:

James Gibson Saxty 1885-1960 (1930 at 75 Warreneder Park Road) or

John Macintosh Saxty 1880-1942 (1930 at 15 Falcon Avenue or 1 Viewpoint Square)

They were both sons of William Frank Saxty 1855-1915.
His father was Richard Saxty 1813-1895.

The reason for my interest is that I have recently acquired a vintage Armstrong Siddeley Motor Car sold by Rossleigh of Edinburgh in December 1929.

The client was recorded as J. Saxty.

I have no other information and just wondered if anyone reading this thread had any more information about either oi these two chaps.

By 1947 the car was in Southend on Sea and owned by a lady with the name of Miss Edith Mabel Campion. She surrendered her driving license in 1965 and the car was stored until about 1981.

I have not been able to establish any link between the Campion and Saxty families thus far so the car may well have been sold after J. Saxty's ownership. Or was he perhaps a car dealer ?

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / 1881 Census for James Saxon B.1821

Hi there I only use Family Search and have an entry for James Saxon B.1821. The record is 4034/91 Page 32. It states he is married but I cannot locate any other family members. There is no other person/persons shown and no clue with an address.

I have found other Saxons nearby:

4034/90 Page 30 but  I think this a different Saxon family and I have also found
4034/92 Page 33 but again this is, I believe a different Saxon family.

If this is the James Roughley (informant brother) then I can see he has a sister Mary Jane B.1858.

Their parents were James Roughley B.1832 and mother Frances Quinn B.1836 died 1876.

It makes sense as this Mary Jane disappears after her father re-married in 1879. Perhaps the parents "got rid of her" or she just left home and took up with Thomas Flynn.

I would just like to be sure this is James Roughley of 107 Bradford Road.

The only other thing that concerns me with this match is that she is said to have been born in 1861 when she gave birth to Mary Alice in 1895.

Going back to the 1901 bit with 71 Monmouth St. and Mrs J Holt.
I would think this was the informant of the child abuse and therefore was not the guardian. She may have known the mother and child from the local area or even had them as lodgers at some point.

On studying it again it more likely to be be 37 St Stephen Street or even possibly 32. ???

Died of Enteric Fever (Typhoid)   >:(

Paid my £7 and got the death certificate for a Mary Jane Roughley who died in 1902.

Not sure it helps to pin her down but it does say................

Age 44 so born about 1858.

Died 12/7/1902 at the Sanatorium Pendleton Salford.

Doubler in Cotton Mill of 31 St Stephen Street Salford.

Informant: James Roughley Brother of 107 Bradford Road Manchester

Can anybody please confirm this is James Roughley B1864 who married Mary Hannah Haslam in 1884?

9
Following on from the information that she used an alias Flynn I see there is a Sarah Flinn B1882 to Thomas Flinn and Mary Jane Roughley in Salford ! Ill go and see what became of them now.

Can anybody please help with Mary Jane Roughley's admission to the New Bridge Workhouse in March 1895? I am sure I saw a record somewhere which said her birth year was 1861. She and Mary Alice actually have the surname RUGHFLY on these records. This is also the surname on Mary Alice's birth certificate.

This is all really helpful and thank you all so much for the time you have spent to assist.
