Henry is listed on our war memorial as the family lived in our parish. Some info from the 1911 census on our website

All may not be lost here. A lady who is helping out with this has found info (on Ancestry I think)
that a William Riley who was on the Lucania in 1901 lived at 88 Church Road, right opposite our church. She's sent a screenshot of what she found. It says Liverpool Crew lists 1861-1919. May be of some help?

A notice in the Liverpool Post indicates this man was known as 'Willie' so I think you can discount him.

Well spotted, Boo.  Back to the drawing board.....

wow, that's interesting. We just need to establish a link between him and our parish. I'll pass info on and see what comes up. Great work!

O Williams was possibly known as Owen Williams working in Liverpool and in Lodgings ?

My Cousin Linda when we were Both Researching Biographies for the Liverpoolpals Roll of Honour found Owen Enlisted under Surname O W Wells 17221 into the 18th Pals possibly with his other Church Mates of St Annes?

Another amazing find. Great detective work :-)
I've found a photo of his grave and added that to our website together with his photo.

" J C Jones"

This seems very likely to be Driver John Cleveland Jones M2/183224, ASC. Died of blackwater fever at Salonika in February 1918. He and his wife Margaret Jane Robertson Christian lived in Tranmere but his wife's family  lived at 5 Derby Street, Old Swan.

His mother-in-law Elizabeth Christian posted a death notice in the Echo. The people named are her sons Donald and James and Donald's wife Lillian:

Donald and Lillian are at 14, Cheadle Avenue, Old Swan in the 1921 census but 1920s electoral rolls  show them also at 5 Derby Street. They seem to have been registered at both addresses.

The next two clips have photos of Driver J C Jones:

Great thinking outside of the box there. We'll get loooking into it. Thank you :-)

"T Riley"

I wonder if the T is for Ted.  There was a William Edward Riley, Seaman, Royal Naval Reserve, H.M.S. "Lady Cory Wright."

Died 26 March 1918, aged 44.

Native of Castletown, Isle of Man. Half-brother of Catherine Jane Riley, of 1, Aylesford Rd., Old Swan, Liverpool.

Hi Shaun, thanks for info. It definitely says T. West on the memorial. I can't imagine they'd make an error over something as important as that back then. I'll keep the info save tho ;-)

our war memorial has 175 names of men from our parish who died in the war.

https://saintannestanley.co.uk/war%20memorials/index.html

A group of local historians have found information for most of them but we're stumped on 12 of them. Someone on a local genealogy group suggested I try this group to see if anyone can identify them. Their names are;

F. Briggs
A. Gregson (not ADJS Gregson who appears on the memorial and for who we have info)
J. Grisedale
J. C. Jones
R. Owens
T. Riley
J. A. Stewart
T. West
N. Williams
O. Williams
T. A. Wood
A. Wright

All we know are their names (as listed), they died in WW1 and lived  or had connections to the parish of Stanley in Liverpool. Thanks in advance for any help.

wow, what an amazing coincidence that the 2 men involved in building the 2 churches on the same site should be related through marriage  :D
