There are still many, many beautiful old buildings in the area that was Abercromby ward!
Just a short stroll from Abercromby Square is the Georgian Quarter - so called because of the architecture. Take a look on street view and you'll see.

This is a list of the roads within Abercromby ward, as was.

Thank you Shaun and Jackson.

I had actually looked on Google maps but never thought of doing the 'from' and 'to' bit! I am grateful that you thought of it.

When I said 'still exists' -- I am doing my brother in law's family tree and was hoping to insert some background to the District of Abercromby -- which I had never heard of in Liverpool -- and also hoping to find old pictures of this District in the past. I notice you both say 'was a Ward'.

When I could only find 'Abercromby Square' (and clearly Russell Street wasn't as it must have been in the 1800s) -- I just wondered if Abercromby, as a whole District had been demolished and just the square remained.

Thank you for your help - I appreciate it.

Yes, it's no longer a ward. It was fairly recently though.
From Wikipedia ...
"Abercromby ward was an electoral division of Liverpool City Council. It was originally created in 1835, was merged with St James ward in 1974 and was resurrected in 1980. Finally it was divided into the new Riverside and Princes Park wards in 2004."

You can see on this map, it was where Nos. 21 and 22 on the map are now - quite extensive area.

Abercromby was a ward, a parish and a sub-district of Liverpool, over varying years and with varying boundaries.

I have just found your post form 2014  - your assumptions are correct - the photograph is of Mary Hannah Hanlin Blair, my wife's mother as a child.

Hello Whyatt,
It's almost 2 years since your post, but I've just seen it.
Herbert John Blair was my great great uncle. His father John Macdonald Blair was my 3x great grandfather.
If you could get in touch I'd be grateful, I'm trying to find more out about Herbert.
Regards,
Caroline
