Technical Help / Re: Windows XP
« on: Monday 19 February 07 21:09 GMT (UK)  »
I did as Newfy said first and used the files transfer wizard, which saved all my desktop settings, Email, favourites ect on to my external hard drive. when I put windows on it formated everything so I have had to spend most of the day putting all the programmes back on - takes ages you dont realise what you have on. When I transferred all the files back via the wizard everything worked great!! The only problem was I only transferred my desktop and not my husbands !! so he lost everything  :'( which didnt please him very much. so a warning if anybody else is thinking of re installing windows make sure you transfer all the users  ::)

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Re: Before 1871 liverpool - Stirrup

Hi Mo. :Yes I had seen that one , but James's father was still alive in 1867 when he got married ( well at least it doesn't show on the certificate that he was deceased) and I think he died abt 1869. Thanks for looking though.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Before 1871 liverpool - Stirrup
« on: Saturday 21 October 06 22:17 BST (UK)  »
Could some kind soul try to find my 2x gt Grandfather James Stirrup before 1871. On the 1871 census I have him living at Dixon terrace, no 8 Tatlock St. His mother Margery (or possibly Margaret) is a widow living with him and his family. RG 10, Piece 3760, Folio 64, Page 22. On all  censuses he is down as being born in Liverpool. I have his marriage certificate which states that he married Sarah A Whittingham on 1st April 1867. They were both living in Dawson Street and were married at the Parish Church Liverpool - I'm presuming that was St Peters. His Father was William Stirrup and was a glass blower as was James. Both James & Sarah were minors so he would have to have been born after 1846.( censuses give it as either 1846 or 47) I have been through all the James Stirrup's and William Stirrup's for most of the country but can't find any that match. I have tried various spellings of Stirrup but nothing. I'm getting a bit frustrated now :'( I think they must have landed from outer space. They moved to St Helens between 1871 & 81

The Lighter Side / Re: Just had to tell someone!

I was recently contacted by someone on Genes Reunited who had traced his tree back to the 1600's We both have the same 8x Gt Grandfather. He has written 2 books about the family. He very kindly printed them out and sent it to me, He only wanted me to pay for the postage. Although some of his rellies are of another branch to mine( he came down from a different son than me) its a very interesting read. Although I had the names it is very exciting to be able to put more information to them.

It showed the funeral of these brave men on the news today. Their families came from all over the world to Holland for the occasion

My Dad grew up being told that his mother had died after a saucepan fell off a shelf and hit her on her head. Out of curiosity I sent for her death cert. and found that she had died of cancer. How terrible for him to live all his life thinking that was how she died.I suppose cancer was never mentioned in those days- the 1930's
