My mam has spoken of being here from age 7 with her younger brother when their mam could not look after them prob around 1940. Unfortunately her memories were of poor treatment, hard daily work doing laundry and looking after the younger children, children in fear of some visitors (she wouldn't expand), children going missing at night (though they may have took the opportunity to run away when crossing a field at night to go to the toilet shed, something she said you didn't do unless you were desperate).
