Moray (Elginshire) / Re: Alexander Stronach of Drainie abt 1795 - bfr 1857

I don’t know if this helps but www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk today had:
Alexander Stronach and wife Barbara Sim, with a son William Stronach born 13th April 1777 in Elgin area.
I was researching another William and just happened to make a note of it.

Staffordshire / Re: Colcloughs of Goldenhill
« on: Wednesday 06 November 24 16:39 GMT (UK)  »
Interested to read the above comments, I’ve been following Colclough and Turnock for decades now. Turnock have been somewhat easier, the Colclough line (although well publicised for the Irish Wexford side) is more tricky on the Staffordshire side, partly due to multiple same names being used in every generation eg. John, James, etc and multiple marriages.

I was reading some ‘documentation’  I found online by Googling the other day, notes of a descendant who had tried to research all the Colclough lines and managed somewhat, collated by his son.
“The Colclough Family; A Chronological Index ” by John Nicholas Colclough of Laois, Ireland, dated 1998. He doesn't profess to be correct on everything, but it’s interesting to read and he mentions the Colclough line of GoldenHill..and elsewhere.

I’d be delighted to hear anything of the Colcloughs based in Audley in the 1700’s and early 1800’s, especially some of whom in Wills were either listed as “Yeoman” or “Gentleman”…especially two elusive men. John Colclough died 1811, birth unknown but likely 1765-1777 and married a Sarah Edwards in Barthomley, also a related somehow James Colclough of the same Woodshutts, Talke, Audley etc area, who married an Ann/e Lindop.  Thank you

An amazing amount of beautifully researched work and puzzling you’ve both done on this Ch1st1an and Willow, a delight to see. Also some aspects are very interesting for me, as I have many of those surnames in my Staffordshire & Cheshire family Tree.
I will see if those mentioned match up with those in my more distant branches. Thank you so much for the ‘List’ compilation too.
Best wishes.

Cork / Re: DYNAN/DINAN Cork area, Catholic and occupation Tailors!

Hi Kiwi, Renee and Hallmark. I’m sorry I haven’t replied sooner, I never seem to see these messages until years have passed, but better late than never.
All of your recent posts are fascinating, I will construct a Tree as I find it easier to visualise everything on a Tree and then see if I can find anything else.

Of note is that recently I have discovered that although the line I started my post with ‘may have lived at some time in Cork’ if the family tale is correct, the Bloodline now appears to come historically from County Clare.  So anyone who has similar names to these historically in County Clare in their ancestry, even if they emigrated all over the world subsequently, could be especially interesting.
Sorry to be brief, any ideas or information would be wonderful.  Best wishes all.

Thank you so much Monica. It’s a very interesting read, but rather sad that no one knows exactly where he is buried in Dublin.

Thank you.

Hello, I’ve only just found your message, its fascinating as I have read the newspaper reports about Amelia many times. I’ve been researching various Dynan family lines for about 30-35yrs now trying to find the correct one or piece various bits of info together to get an accurate whole! I must admit with very little luck, as there are so many surname variations, locations and of course the well known difficulty with Irish Records.
I have never before read about his life and Medals though, so it’s really interesting.

Do you know what Denis Dynan’s ancestry is? Particularly his parents and where his family originated, I’m suspecting Ireland and I’d love to know what County to be able to see if he fits into one of the Trees I’m working on.
The Dynan line I’m looking for, or trying to get back into Ireland from, includes a man born in Ireland abt 1803-1812 (depending on which record one believes), I’m still unsure where in Ireland he was born, but its now looking like maybe County Clare. I’m just curious about your Denis and whether he could be connected some way.
Best wishes and Happy New Year 2023. 😊

I’ve been reading lots of info online and in addition to the ones mentioned earlier I’ve also found Dynan families living nearby the surnames above also in Lahinch and the surrounding area. Just thought I’d add that incase it helps anyone.

Just being hopeful! Best wishes.

I’ve only just come across this, but Thank you so much for adding this link and all the huge amount of info…I’ve just trawled through it.
I cant say I understand it all yet! However, I believe it is very likely to prove helpful to my Tree as since having some DNA tested I have found a good few of these surnames in my historic Tree in Co Clare.…I’m now just trying to work through it all and learn how to understand and interpret the findings. Thank you
