Antrim Completed Look up Requests / Re: MARTIN/MONTGOMERY...Belfast
« on: Saturday 14 April 12 07:39 BST (UK)  »
Hiya back..
I don't have much info on the Vance line either. That name was given to me by hubby's sister in Belfast. They do not seem interested in following any line of research so have to pump them for info and get them to check it out with family. I will ask one of Hubby's sisters and see what she says re the names you have given me. I can't promise to get back to you sgtraight away though. We are traveling around Oz so all my files in storage and only have limited info with me. Put my family tree on to an external hard drive for safe keeping and do not intend to acccess it till we stop travelling...
Cheers for now

Hi Mac
Thank you for that info. I have been in touch with some of that family line to try and prove their Arthur Patten and mine are the same. On my Arthur Jones's birth cert, he is listed as Arthur Edwin (no surname listed) and has his father as Arthur E Patten, policeman, Geraldton. Their Arthur is an Arthur Wenn Patten, so very confusing. Arthur Jones's mother Mary Jane Cable was reported as being a house keeper to Arthur E Patten, a policeman at the time she got pregnant. He was inbetween wives at the time, Harriet then Margaret....
They do not have my Arthur Edwin Jones/Cable/Patten in their tree at all, as he would have been illegitimate....
I just need tp prove Arthur E Patten and Arthur Wenn Patten are one and the same person....I have been in touch with an archivist for the WA Police and he says there was only one Arthur Patten listed as a policeman in the Geraldton, Greenough, Williams area etc at the time...So one can only assume, but not happy with that....
I have not been able to do much follow up on this as we are moving into a motor home and intend to travel around Oz for 3 - 5 years, so have to put on the back burner for awhile, at least any follow ups etc. Will stil lhave a browse now and then, time permitting...
Thanks again

G'day Bleckie and Cambron :D
Thank you soooo much for all that wonderful information on my Reid's. I'm blown away with the fact that you went to so much trouble for me. I have been very slack doing my tree and have not had much time to do any research. All my info is now on an external harddrive and all hard copies and files are packed away in boxes. We are off on an extended holiday around Oz for a few years. I will print this out for reference till I can get back into it, though you may have given me the bug again, it doesn't take much to get you going again...
Thanks again, much apprciated

Hi Shane and Heywood.
Thanks for all that info, it looks promising. I have passed it all onto my distant cousin who may follow it up more as I will be traveling around Oz and will not have all that much time to give it my full attention.
I really appreciate you doing the look ups for me, and as you say Shane, it may have been a mixed denomination. When we ravelled to Ireland in 2007, we went to Athlone to try and find the Parish but could not find any Fannons at the time...I even tried ringing a few in the local phone book and left an article in the local newspaper. I heard from a few people willing to help but no family I'm afraid!
Heywood, I was told they may have married in or near Dublin but it looks like it may have been Athlone...
I really should not have gotten started again as it will get me hooked again!
Thanks again guys

Perthshire / REID Alexander....Alyth
« on: Tuesday 20 December 11 05:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
I would dearly love it if someone can do a look up for me for my Alexander Reid. All I have is a copy of his son's (John)  marriage cert. John was listed as being born in Alyth c1964. It showed his parents as Alexander Reid & Annie Edward. I do not know if Alexander was also born in Alyth?? He was listed as a farm servant on John's cert.  I have John as aged 26 when he married out here in Oz in 1890. I do not know if/when or how his parents came to Oz.
I know it's a long shot as Alexander a popular name...can only try!
I would appreciate anything at all...
Kindest Regards

Roscommon / FANNON Patrick....Athlone
« on: Tuesday 20 December 11 05:28 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all
I am hoping someone in here can help me find my Patrick Fannon and any relatives he had. He was born in the Parish of Drum in or near the town of Athlone c 1823/24. I have him as joining the 67th Regt of Foot in Galway on 5th June 1840 aged 17. He served 21yrs & 41 days inculding abroad in Nth America, Gibralta and the West Indies. He came out to Australia aboard the "Vimiera" 22 Dec 1865. He married a Mary Lyon or Lyons about 1938. They came out with two sons, Martin c1863 & Michael c1865. He may have travelled extensively with the army so do not know where he married Mary or where their two sons were born.
I would dearly love to be able to find anything at all on our Patrick and Mary and their two sons, I have the rest from when they came to Oz. He is my biggest brick wall at the moment.
Kind Regards
Kazlee

Hi Melody
Wow, you hae been busy, thank you. Most of that info I already had as I am in contact with one of the Patten family in G'ton. I don't know if you know of Laurel & John Hadley, she sent me a copy of her family tree which has an Arthur Patten. I don't have access to it at the moment as all packed away in storage. We are off on a 3-5yr trip around Oz, so won't be doing very much re the family tree. Only taking one folder with all relevent info in case somehing crops up. I have not included her branch till proven.
I am assuming 'our' Arthur E Patten and her Arthur Patten are one and the same as there was only one policeman of that name in the area at the time. (I'm also in touch with a Police Archivist in WAGS who says the same thing!)  Plus our gr grandmother was rumoured to be his housekeeper at the time and got pregnant to him inbetween his two marriages. My grandfather's birth cert has his father listed as Arthur E Patten, and he signed it as A E Patten, surely you would sign a legal piece of paper with your correct name? My grandfather was listed as Athur Edwin on the cert with no surname. His mother is Mary Jane Cable. She also had a brother John Cable who was also a policeman in the area at the same time...coincidence or what? Laurel says the Wenn name correct for their Arthur, so now need something showing he had a housekeeper called Mary around 1879 when my grandfather was born.
I don't know abourt a gate, but I wouild like to knock down the whole bl...y wall! And as for Thomas Ishmael Jones, I've not even gone down that road yet!
Thanks again
Much appreciated

Hi Lizdb
Yeah a tricky one there. It seems that John's daughter
Grace (my dad's mum) and Mary's son Arthur (dad's father) were 1st cousins when they married. Apparently they spent a lot of time together growing up and fell in love, the rest is history!!
Hi Copperbeech5
I think Mary was born in Fremantle WA after Joseph came out. Will check that when I get home and let you know. I'm at work at the moment.
I had someone in another site give me that info but I have not confirmed or checked it. I know the spelling can be different depending who made the records etc. Another family member doing the tree has gone with that and further back I think, but another family member says it is just speculation, so I'm confused.  ???
I will have to get her notes out and see how far back she has gone...
Thanks guys for all your help. Anything else you come up with will be gratefully received.

Hi Jenn
My grandfather was born 13th May 1879 in WA, in Fremantle I think. His father, A E Patten, is listed as a Policeman on the birth cert. There is an Arthur Wenn Patten listed as a policeman in the Fremantle and Geraldton areas around the same time, very close, but proving they are one and the same is proving very difficult.
Anything you can find will be a bonus.
