Hi

I am interested in some of these names - Brooks, Bunn, Stubbs and Brookes.  They appear on Gerald Cresswell's Canal Boatmen site - which I gave him some of the information, so if you have any more I would be very interested.

Thanks.

Jackie :)

Hi
Looking for connections to the Brooks family - Thomas Brooks m. Ann Prince in 1773.  Have names and dates of birth for various descendants but would be interested to hear from anyone searching same.

Ta! :)

Hi everyone

Thanks for your input on this subject !! :)

I now have information on Richard Brooks' parents and grandparents and their respective families

Richards parents were Charles Prince Brooks and Ann _
Richards brothers and sisters were -
Mary b. 1817, John b. 1822, James Collins Brooks, b.1824, Thomas b. 1827, Sarah Jane b. 1832.

Richard's grandparents (Charles' mum and dad !) were Thomas Brooks and Ann Prince - which solves the mystery of why certain children had the middle name of Prince.  They married on 24 August 1773 in St Andrews Church, Rugby.  (How's that for detail !)

Thomas and Ann had the following children:
MARY BROOKS, b. 1774, Rugby.
WILLIAM BROOKS, b. 1776, Rugby.
ANN BROOKS, b. 1778, Rugby.
THOMAS BROOKS, b. 1781, Rugby.
CHARLES PRINCE BROOKS, b. 1793, Rugby.

So there we are !  I have obtained all this information through the excellent Hugh Wallis website for IGI batch numbers

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountryEngland.htm#PageTitle

Knowing they came from the Rugby area I checked the churches for Brooks (and there are quite a few) and up they all popped!

Regarding Albert Leonard - there was no father on the birth certificate and I can't find any trace of Ann after his birth - may have married, may have died.

Thanks for your help and interest on this thread.

Hi Jan

Many thanks for that.  I will investigate!  I take it you mean this is the family of Charles Prince Brooks - Richard's father.  This gives me something to get stuck into !

Thanks again

Leicestershire / Brooks, Leicester/Rugby

Hi all

I am researching the Brooks family from Leicester/Rugby area.

Richard Brooks born to Charles Prince Brooks and his wife Ann abt. 1818.

The name Charles Prince Brooks seem to run throughout the family and Richard, who was a boatman on the canal network, married Martha Doyal.  When on their travels they settled in Cheshire (Middlewich).  There is also a connection with Talke in Staffs and Whaley Bridge on the Derbyshire/Cheshire border.

Hope this rings some bells!

Hi again!

I should've pointed out, by way of demonstrating the "accuracy" (or not) of the census information - on the 1881 it shows Charles Brooks as being a widower, which is incorrect - his brother William, who is shown on the row below Charles, is the widower.

William's wife died in 1878 (I have copy of death certificate).
Charles Brooks' wife died in 1921 (found that out at the Cheshire Family History Fair yesterday !)

Hi

My Brooks family in the 1871 census are as follows:

at Cottage House, Tetton

Martha Brooks (Head), Widow, age 53, born Leicester
Alice Bunn (Daughter) Married, age 18, born Leicester
Joseph Bunn (Son-in-law) Married, age 20, born Middlewich
Mary Brooks (Daughter) Unmarried, age 9, born Tetton
Richard B Brooks (Son) Unmarried, age 7, born Tetton

1881 census
Congleton Road, Talke

Mary Martha Brooks (Head), Widow, age 74 Housekeeper, Leicestershire
Joseph Brooks (Son) Unmarried, age 26, Boatman, born Warmingham, Chesh
Martha Ann Brooks (Granddaughter), "neice"?, age 14, born Odd Rode
Charles Brooks (Son) Widower, age 39, Boatman, Odd Rode
William Brooks (Son) ........ age 38, Boatman, Odd Rode
John Brooks (Son) ........ age 28, Boatman, Odd Rode
Richard Brooks (Son) ....... age 18, Boatman, Odd Rode

Both these census details are via Ancestry.  There are discrepancies between the two census - particularly Martha Brooks' age but I do believe these are the same family.  There is another discrepancy in that John Brooks is shown on the 1881, but I also know he is on the 1881 in Whaley Bridge with his wife and family!
