Family History Beginners Board / Re: Where did Thomas Johnston go?

Yes as you say he may may not be my Thomas and I am very reluctant to add him to my tree. If I can't find any way of connecting someone to Tannadice then I may never find him.
Thanks for your reply.

Sorry had to remove the attachment and cut parts  from the previous post as it made the post too big.

Hi , Isabella Simpson aka Isabel Samson was born about 1842 Forfar, Angus, Scotland
Father George Sampson  and mother Marjory Piggott
She was staying with her sister and family at Lammertn farm near Monifieth, Angus, Scotland when Archibald was born in 1858.
1871 census shows Isabella and Archibald living with her parents in Tannadice village but strangely he is recorded as Archibald Johnston. When Archibald married he was calling himself Simpson and that is now my family name.
Isabella died 13 March 1886 in Tannadice, Angus,  Scotland.
I will attach the relevant part of the Sheriff Court ruling naming Thomas Johnston as the father.
I think Thomas may have disappeared to avoid the alimony payments.

I know nothing about him before or after the paternity decree  ,dont know where he lived, where he was born or where he went afterwards and in the original post I gave his occupation as coachman.

As I  said ,I can't find anything about him before or after and I have checked cecus, BDM ,newspaper archives and ships passenger lists for more hours than I care to think about . I have found lots of possibilities but nothing that can be verified as him.

Thomas Johnston my 2x great grandfather and Isabel Samson aka Isabella Simpson he disappeared after the Sheriff  Court paternity decree naming him as the father ordered him to pay Alimony until my great grandfather Archibald  Simpson seven years old. The date on the paternity decree is November 1858 and his address was Tannadice house, Tannadice, Angus, Scotland. Where he was employed as a coachman. I can find nothing of him in the usual places like Scotlands people or newspaper archives either before or after this event. Would love to hear from anyone who has any clues about Thomas. I suspect that he may have done a runner to avoid the alimony payments.

World War Two / Gordon Highlander L / Cpl George Watson
« on: Friday 31 January 20 18:21 GMT (UK)  »
L/Cpl George Watson served in the Gordon Highlanders during WW2. He was born in Methlick Aberdeenshire in 1910 . The only facts that we have is that he was at home in Aberdeenshire in 1943 when his wife died in the April and was still there when he remarried in December of that year. It is also believed that he was a prisoner of war and worked in the salt mines in the Black forrest area of Germany. Any information or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Ken
