Berkshire / Peter Parfitt died 1790
« on: Wednesday 11 September 13 16:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
I am trying to find out more about Peter Parfitt died 1790. He was an organist of Newbury and became a Vicar Choral and Organist of Wells Cathedral where he is buried with a simple floor slab in the nave.
He was apparently married to Eliza and had four children; Edward, Edmund, Walter and William.  I have details of his will and there is no mention of his wife or children, leaving his estate to his brothers and sisters: James,Edward, Alice Ann and Elizabeth.
I have unconfirmed details that show Peters son William married an Elizabeth and their children included Samuel, Gideon, Henry and Elizabeth. Henry being born 1798, whom I am descendant from. Up to him my family tree is correct. I also have that Henry's parents are instead Joseph and Martha. Joseph had a brother William, though I am not sure its the same William as Joseph's parents are William and Nancy, which would have been Peter and Eliza.
I am struggling to find the connection to Peter and would like to prove/disprove the link. As he lived in Newbury and left  a sizeable will, which it has been suggested by Wells Cathedral archives he inherited can anyone throw any light on him or the family.
Kind regards
Stella

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Re: William Henry Jones birth 1885 approx

Hi Carole,
Thank you, we didn't know anything about a previous marriage, his age or that he was a widower so no children to go on. My only thought is to check everybody in the 1911 census and hope for an address match.
Thanks for your reply.

Census and Resource Discussion / Re: Find My Past 14 day free trial

Hi,

I didn't notice it initially if it did say so. I mainly wanted to check on census info and only found one was free and the others said credits required. I  know now the 1911 is a pay to view census, but thought others would be free on a trial.

Thanks

Hi,
with regards this free trial, I am a bit confused!

I started a free trial and ended it after a couple of days as all of my searches produced lists of people and to look at in more detail meant I still had to pay to look at them! Is this right?

I previously did an Ancestry free trial and found I could see all records no problem.

Hi,

I have checked out some of the suggestions for keeping records but I am after something paper based to record my findings as I go along.
I loaned a library book once which was mainly american and  noted there were some details mentioned  on record keeping, filing etc , that already had headings on the page as prompts for what information to record; some web sites were also mentioned, but  as does, never got around to writing out the info to look up later and took the book back. Now can't find it!

I currently write the information down all over the place, notes, stickies, notepad etc, but it would help to have an idiot guide for recording essential info. Haven't got as far as creating a spreadsheet yet, but would rather have it in paper format anyway.

Has anyone seen any good folders/books especially for this?

Thanks
Stella

Hi Osprey and Arranroots,

The other names that have been suggested are James/Jim or Jimmy, Billy/Bill/or William, Ivor, May and Tite as well as Morgan and Enoch- my link. Two other children but  names unkown.  Tite seems a really unusual name to me and I don't know what else it could stand for!?

The witnesses were an Enoch Tasker - her brother and a Benjamin Evans-?

Well thanks an awful lot, I will order certs, as I need to rule in or out as case may be as you have been very kind and given me so much to go on! :)

Kind regards
Stella

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Re: 1881 Census help look up for David James Price
« on: Thursday 08 April 10 22:54 BST (UK)  »
Hi Osprey,

I suppose I was hoping to find the  Price family listed as living at 57 High Street Aberdare in 1891 or 1901, where DJP lived prior to his marriage in 1899 and hopefully a Tasker family in the same road too!

I can't remember which site I looked on but I searched by road and it listed house no's and family name, but none where mine!
As you say I may have been out by a decade!

May I also ask which is the best way to search for a trade?

Many thanks
Stella
