Hello Jim
This is the thread I should have used to ask my question re Duncan McKellar.  The information that you have included, especially the list of newspaper clippings and wills, has confirmed much of what we have found in our own research.  Thank you for sharing that list which has given us more information.

Capt Duncan McKellar (1791-1875) was the brother of my 3xgreat grandfather, Alexander McKellar.  Duncan had a son, also Alexander and another shipmaster, who died onboard the Juno in 1863.  Another son, Duncan, a steamboat engineer, drowned by falling into the sea at Millport while stepping from the quay on board the steamer Lady Brisbane of Glasgow. Underwater 12 hours.

In Reply #8 you have a section headed "The McKellar shipping company was founded by Duncan McKellar". In this article, you mention that Duncan took part in the Walcherin Expedition and the Peninsular War.  A book titled 'Echoes of Old Clyde Paddle-wheels also states that Duncan McKellar had served in the Army.

I am interested to know how I can access that information as there may be more information of interest.   In addition to my interest in Duncan, we have other family members who were reputed to be in the army about the same time but I have not been able to find where to verify this.

You also mention that he 'engaged in a few activities' after he resigned from the army which explains why he gave the occupation of weaver when he married Mary Ross in 1817.
Thanks
Dee

Sorry JimMcL and Forforain,  I've obviously put my question on the wrong thread about Duncan McKellar.  I'll find the correct one and repost.

Hoping you are still on this forum, Jim.  I'd be interested to know where you obtained the military information about Duncan McKellar, founder of the McKellar shipping company. Duncan McKellar, 1791, was the brother of my 3xgreat grandfather.

The information you have provided is extremely interesting and I would like to be able to find a way to obtain similar military information from the same period for other family members.

Hello Jean
I live in Qld also, outside Maryborough.  Would love to correspond as I'm keen to learn more about the McIntosh family.  I really only know what my cousin Fay told me when she was alive and what I've gleaned from records.  Except of course for GG Grandma Mary McKellar (McIntosh).  I read somewhere that McIntosh Island near Nerang was named after Robert McIntosh who married Margaret Turner Hope.  Do you know if this is accurate?  I hope it is.  Another interesting story.  It's the stories about family that I love most.
I'll be away in Rockhampton for the next few days but will still check in on my emails.
Glad to have found you.
Cheers
Denise

Hello thommoje
I've come across a message that you posted sometime back about Mary McKellar McIntosh who lived in Maryborough area.  She is my 1C3R, her father, Robert, being my 2xg grandmother's (Mary McIntosh) brother.  Wondered what you meant by the 'Hmmm' comment and how you would be related.  I see it's a fringe family.
You may already know that the McKellar part of her name came about because Mary McIntosh married John McKellar.  Their son Alexander was my great grandfather and he and several of his brothers and a sister as well as his mother, settled in Bauple near Maryborough.  Robert McIntosh also came to Queensland and three of his children, Mary, John and George went to Brooweena, another son David Gibb McIntosh spent some time in Bauple.  Brooweena and Bauple are fairly close to where I live near Maryborough.
I'd love to hear from you.
Denise
