Many thanks for this.  Do you know the full date as I don’t have FindMyPast subscription.

Walter - It doesn’t say he is a son of anyone (other burials do) so I would lean towards him being an adult.
Dorothy - was a “Widdow”
William - was “the elder”

Hi.  I am looking for the full date of a Walter May/Maie’s burial 1608, with any detail (if it mentions this is a child), at Lamberhurst.  I believe there was also a Dorothy buried there 1613 and a William also in 1613.

Many thanks in advance.

Looks like both burials are for daughters of Lawrence Foster.

Lawrence and Phoebe also had two sons named Lawrence. Burials for them in 1761 and 1767.

Two Phoebe Foster baptisms: 1753 and 1765.

The Foster family obviously liked to recycle names!

I think it probably has something to do with leaving a legacy when you name a child after yourself but failing twice on both sides is not a good omen, is it?

Thanks for all your help again.  I am now thinking the memorial transcript is an error or there was an error on made the actual memorial and they put Elizabeth instead of Phoebe - not unheard of I guess.  It put her at 72 in 1800 and as Phoebe was baptised 1728 would mean it is the right age for her.

Is she a Lamberhurst burial, as well?

So far I see this burial for a Phabe Foster --

Burial    26 Dec 1765
Place     Lamberhurst, St Mary
Next of kin relationship     Daughter of
Next of kin name    Lawrence Foster

That’s extremely interesting as I had assumed the daughter died 1757 and her mother after Joseph died.  Perhaps the 1757 Phebe is another daughter too.  They would have been buried at Lamberhurst but died at Ticehurst.  It is a curious family grouping to research because Kent Archaeology has a transcript of Lawrence Foster’s (Phoebe Hodgskins husband’s) memorial at Lamberhurst of 1801 which states he had a wife called Elizabeth who died 1800.  I haven’t been able to find him remarrying to an Elizabeth.

There are several Apprentice records (1742-1759) for a Joseph Hodgskin of Lamberhurst. Looks like his occupations were Wheeler and Wheelwright. He was the Master.

Yes, he was a wheelwright.  He mentions his occupation in his Will dated February 1759.

Is there a Phoebe Foster in the burials too around 1765 - at least after 1760?  She is mentioned in Joseph’s Will  I know there is one for 1757 but that is her daughter.

Many thanks again for all your help.

Hi.

If anyone has access to the burial records for Lamberhurst, I am looking for a Lawrence Foster buried around 1739/1740.  Am looking for the actual date and if there is any other info from the entry  - I know his baptism and marriage details already.

I am also looking for Martha Foster died 1757.  I believe there was also a Martha who was buried 25 June 1756, the daughter of Laurence and Phoebe.  Any details of burial sought for the 1757 Martha.

Many thanks,

There is a marriage for a John Cavilly of Tunbridge to Jane Baldock on 7th February 1715 in Aylesford.

David

Hi

Many thanks taking the trouble to respond. Sadly, i don’t have a sub to FindMyPast this year, hence my need to ask.

Unfortunately, I doubt this is John the son marrying as his age was given as 27, so born 1688.  With the Will of the father of 1766/8, this would mean John the father would have been around 100 in 1768, if he was around 20 years old when his son was born.  Conceivably it could be the father and both married Janes but it also could be a cousin.  I suspect John the son married around 1740-ish.

Best wishes,
