Durham / Re: Jacob Solomon (brickwall)
« on: Sunday 18 February 24 12:49 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you for the info on Jacob Solomon. Catherine is my GT GT Grandmother. She married John Cresswell. He died aged 37 1880. He was a engineer at felling colliery. There is a good write up of his inquest in the Jarrow Guardian.
I had been stuck with Thomas until I learnt the name Salmon/Salman (Saw man) was used. The 19th century switch in spelling may be due to pronunciation but also a lot of Cornish miners came north and they used Solomon. Thomas I used to think married a Isabella Weldon in Sunderland in 1781, but then I found an Elizabeth Donnison in 11/11/1780 in Chester le Street, Durham, which as a location made more sense. However the records tend to be for a Isabella & John combination.
Jacob's wife Jane died in 1865 Colliery Row Houghton Le Spring. I was fascinated to learn of a book.
I accidentally deleted my first write so this is a replacement and I hope I have remembered the dates!

Oh Wow! Thank you all so much. I recognise some of the names and am just thrilled the info exists and you have all shared. Thanks again. I don't know how to attach photos either but I would love to see it.

I have just started  investigating my Duxfield ancestors in Earsdon. Mine is Timothy who married Mary Myers in 1794- I found her parents and Grandfather MI and grave in lanchester in a good state. (1763, 1777 and 1779 on same headstone) I think his father was Joseph Duxfield and his George Duxfield. Anyway I am not on facebook but I wondered if anyone knew if Duxfield Graves from the 18th century still exist or have a copied out inscription?  Thanks

Lancashire / Re: William Sharp - what year did he die?
« on: Sunday 27 January 19 14:24 GMT (UK)  »
Can I revive this discussion on William Sharp- a distant Uncle relative. He was  a merchant/shipowner and property developer of Clifton Park Birkenhead. I am following his younger brother Richard Sharp and family over in Newcastle and Gateshead. In the family their used to be stories of a ship owning Sharp and hey I find they are true. I found the comments on ships really helpful. I am still at  a loss over when he died and where. None of the GRO index ages given for deaths in the Liverpool area match the age he would have been. The 1860 one is a bookmaker age 67. 1858 is age 50 and 1856 age 47. 1854 16.
I know he went bankrupt but I think he began trading again. I can see his wife's probate when she died.
Any info appreciated- I am going round in circles! I am a new member.
