Hi CassT, Sue and Marie

Thats him. Thank you for the link. Much appreciated. Looks like he re-married.

Ive been digging around for more info (which I dont have here at work!!)

His parents were Agnes McIntyre and Thomas Alexander Hastie. He moved from Glasgow to Australia and ended up in Toowoomba.

He married Annie Hunter Meiklejohn Munro Madden (also from Glasgow) on 5 October 1936 and moved in to her parents house at 2 Laurel Lane, Toowoomba. Annie had a brother Joe Madden and her Dad was Daniel Madden. Her uncle was Joseph. They are listed on the virtual war memorial site:

https://vwma.org.au/explore/people/637333
https://vwma.org.au/explore/people/723357
https://vwma.org.au/explore/people/199592

I would love to get in contact with Jennifer Munro who added the details/story to these two. Gave me a lot of clues.

John enlisted at Toowoomba in 1942, survived the war and came out in 1946. Unfortunately, his wife Annie Hastie died in 1943. I reckon the reason my Gran (Johns sister), Grandad and my mum (aged 5). Came out was to help him with their children after he was released from the army and having lost his wife.

Will keep you posted.
Cheers
Steve

Hi Marie

Im originally from England and now live in Canberra and recently discovered a family member on my mums side is buried in Toowoomba Garden of Rememberance. I am trying to find as much information as I can of him.

He was called John McIntyre Hastie. He used to live at 2 Laurel Place, Toowoomba. He died in 1971 aged 65. Plot number 206-B-7.

A bit of history. My Gran, Grandad and Mum came to Australia just after WWII on the assisted passage and they went to live with John (my grans brother). Unfortunately they didnt like Australia so moved back to Glasgow, Scotland!!! Go figure?? I remember my mum saying she had cousins in Australia but I was young and didnt really think much about it. I moved to Australia 26 years ago and have just recently started thinking about my mums side of the family. I would love to find out about them.

If you are ever out at the cemetary I would love it if you could possibly have a look around? There are no lists/details of burials on the GOR website, just the contact us option.

Anyway, I know its a stab in the dark, but would very much appreciate it if you could go have a look next time you are there.

Kind regards
Steve

Hi Rathlad

Sorry to hijack your thread but I have recently started looking into my mums side of the family who moved to Australia just after the war with her parents from Glasgow. My grans brother was John McIntyre Hastie that Aussie1947 mentioned earlier. Would love to find out more about John if you know anything from the friendship between him and James?

Cheers
Steve
