OK!
I do not know where you are but I am in NY, USA! Awhile back I was EXTREMELY involved in researching but these last 2 years I have been "grammy care"- as I call it (lol)- watching my grand daughter FULL time or 8/9 hours a day/ 4 days a week which has left me little time to research. But when I did research.....I found quite a few connections AND cousins all over the world...Us, Ireland, Australia..... I am VERY interested in your connection. As I said before...I talked to a gentleman before who was researching BELL...Mary ARMSTRONGS connection. We were not sure ..or shall I say HE was not totally sure so we never confirmed it!
I KNOW that John and "Nicholas" are my gggg grand parents! Their son William who settled in County Fermanagh (n Ire) and married Jane Montgomery...named a daughter "Nicholina"- I assume after William's mother.(They also named a son "Jardine"). Nicholina was my gg Grandmother who eventually ended up in Brooklyn NY. My beautiful grand daughter is named "Nicholina"...after her heritage! So...
Contact me...So happy to hear from you!
PS..you mention OLIVER...strange because another son of William...Montgomery Armstrong (Co Tyrone)..well his daughter "Jeesie" married an Oliver!!!! Hmmm Interesting!!!!

Hi "Sandy D"... I talked to someone awhile back in ref to Mary Armstrong ( who married Bell) He wasn't sure if THAT was his line. Are you "sure" this is yours? Cause if it is we are related! lol..The son William Armstrong is my GGG grandfather.  He traveled to N Ireland married a Montgomery and named one of his (18) children " Nicholina" after his mother. She was my gg grandma. IF you are sure you are related to this line...WELL ...then .. HELLO cuz! LOL Let me know.................

Hi Waldo Olga!

WOW...So you say Bonnynubber was your Grandfather's grandmother's home? May I ask her name?  John Buchanan lived in Bonnynubber. His daughter Sarah married Montgomery Armstrong (my gg grandparents). They lived on Innishmore till about 1856 when they moved to Bonnynubber- I assume because since Sarah was an only child, Bonnynubber was left to her after her father died- thus why they moved with some of their children there. Montgomery and SArah's daughter Jane Armstrong married her cousin George Copeland. She traveled to America abt 1876/77 and they were married shortly after that. George was the son of Hugh Copeland of Enniskillen (son of James Copeland of Lisbellaw) and Nicholina Armstrong (Montgomery's sister). After Hugh died (1841) Nicholina and 6 of her 7 stepchildren and her 5 children went to America (1848). By 1856 the 6 step children had gone on to Australia- Nicholina and her children settled in Brooklyn, NY!  George Copeland and Jane Armstrong were my g grandparents and they lived their lives in Brooklyn, NY.

I can find out info in ref to Bonnynubber. I have not been doing much gen work lately since I watch my grand daughter..BUT I have a cousin in Dublin who has gone there often. There was also an outside gentleman last year looking into the Armstrong/Buchanan relation to Pres. James Buchanan. I KNOW there are still relatives there since I sent pictures and info to them last year.

I do not know if I can post an address here....but...it is (*)

Please if you wish to contact me-please do! It is always GREAT to meet a fellow cousin! I know there were children of a Hugh Copeland from Enniskillen that went to Canada...almost same circumstances as mine...and often confused..BUT his b date was later. I still believe he was most likely a cousin/nephew of mine. Well...would love to hear from you!

Sue

Hi bida

Yes I have heard of your Hugh Copeland. He is different from "my" Hugh but I "think" they were very possibly cousins. My Hugh was born in 1780. He is refered to as "Hugh of the Hollow" and "The Good Hugh". He was first married to Elizabeth "Ann" Harpur. They had 7 children. Ann died in 1828 and Hugh remarried my gg grandmother Nicholina Armstrong in 1829.
They had 5 children. Hugh died Nov. 1841. In 1846- Nicholina , her 5 children, and 6 of her 7 older step children traveled to America, where eventually Nicholina and her children settled in Brooklyn NY. The (older) step children left America and went on to Australia in 1856.

I have been in contact with a couple of people in ref to the Hugh you speak of. Some with extensive information. Since they were both around the Enniskillen area I tend to think they were cousins. My Hugh's father was James Copeland of Lisbellaw. His mother was Anne Henderson.  I have tried finding this James' siblings but no luck so far. James was born near Smithboro in co Monaghan.

One day perhaps !!! Good Luck!

Hi
I have not been on here in awhile but I saw your post! Just an "idea". I have HENDERSON...and was told they came from Cashel(Cash Hill)...I did find them mentioned in a book on Methodism that said they lived in DRumbulcan...which if you check is in/around Cash Hill!

My ggg grandmother was Anne Henderson (b abt 1754) who married James Copeland. Her mother's maiden name was MItchell.

I do not have anything on parents/ siblings but am always searching!!!

Thought I would just give you a "possible"

Fermanagh / Re: Noble Armstrong & Barbara Montgomery

Just a note in ref to your question about "Noble" as a first name. In my "Armstrong" family...many children...besides following the "Traditional" naming pattern (since there were so many children) also gave children the first name of "Surnames" in the family. Ex. One son was named Montgomery Armatrong because his mother's maiden name was Montgomery. Another son was named Jardine Armstrong and the name Jardine was the maiden name of his grandmother (father's mother). This helped me in finding back relatives. Since Noble was a definite surname...I would look into this. Of course it also could be they named him that as a comnpliment to someone named "Noble" who helped the family - which ALSO happened- BUT I would look into it first as a relative!

Hope this helps!

Hi Dave

 First...just as info....let me say....

I was raised Catholic...and until I started researching I NEVER exactly knew. Seems in my research my ancestors- Hendersons/ Armstrong? Montgomery/ Copeland all or most converted to Methodism, since they were involved in either being ministers or having them in their homes in the very early years. See...my gg grandfather....whose family (g grandmother) had immigrated here in 1848 was studying to be a Methodist minister when he met a beautiful Irish Catholic girl and fell in love! Yes they married much to his family's upset...but these were my Grandparents and though my grandfather never left his religion, my grandmother a devout Catholic involved in MANY charities...we were raised Catholic. So my suprise was that most if not all cousins were Methidist! (Religion is NOT a basis I go by....wont go into that here)

As far as leaving N Ireland. You truly need to read the books I taked about...BUT here are some ideas. There was much turmoil in N Ireland in ref to REligion...and more so then "religion" it was political...so many may have left because of that. Remember HENDERSON was most likely a Scottish clan that went to N Ireland after King James Kicked out the Irish and there were many BAD feelings about that. Then you bring in religious freedom. Also the fact...oldest sons inherited fathers estates...younger sons (and many times were talking about LARGE families) had nothing..so they left to make a way for themselves.

I had a relative...Alexander Armstrong...whose brother and sister had already left for America, but who had a son with Asthma and was "told" by the doctor..."Go to America" because it would be better for the son! Now...who would've thought of THAT? But see....It could be ANY reason. No work.....new prospects...health...
If anything...you have to understand that "our" ancestors were much more willing to take a chance then we are!

I hope this info helps a little. I guess my trying to "understand" them...has helped me in my search. Again...try reading those books. It helps!

TC...and always here to lend an idea!
