Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Unexpected % dna.....why?

Yes to estimates / a guide. Also anyone of your line(s) can have another biological father - non-paternity event (NPE). That changes things. We're getting into 32, 64, 128...

Can you honestly account for a high % of your DNA matches? I can't and done extensive work on mine. There are NPE at various points and would hazard this would occur for everyone at some stage in their own trees.

In my research I have viewed very large detailed trees that people have worked on for years. At a paperwork level they are fine but at a DNA match level I know areas are wrong.

Thank you for your advice...unfortunately I still don’t understand.

Family research shows that this one line lived in Scotland. All the others lived in London or southern England. This goes back to about 1700s. Does this mean that prior to this, a large proportion of my friends ancestors were from Scotland?

Thanks again, sorry I’m not getting it!

Shosh

Yes this happens to me.

I doubt it's a browser or cache thing. It's more likely Ancestry tinkering with things when they should leave it alone.

The people in customer services are probably unaware what's going on at that level.

On your main list of matches - go to Shared DNA > select Close Matches > then Apply.

Then from this new list scroll to the very bottom.

Then select all text (Ctrl+A), copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) it to your email or text doc.

That's about all you can do.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Re: Ancestry DNA Matches layout change - now rubbish

I tried it with different browser just in case and I still get this new layout.

I also get one new piece of data not there before showing %

3rd – 4th Cousin
1% shared DNA | 70 cM

3rd – 4th Cousin
< 1% shared DNA | 69 cM

I don't think that info is too important. Not enough to change the layout anyway.

The main DNA match list when you click "View All DNA Matches" green button on the DNA front page.

It's also under the Shared Matches link of the Trees | Ethnicity | Shared Matches section on individual's DNA match page.

Perhaps has not rolled out yet to all users.

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Ancestry DNA Matches layout change - now rubbish
« on: Thursday 17 December 20 10:38 GMT (UK)  »
I see the user list layout of DNA matches has changed on Ancestry the last few days.

Each user is now in a big clunky box. You can now only fit around four user matches in an entire screen. Previously you could have around two dozen.

Also the custom group circle colours for users are now overlaid so less clear visual detail.

Completely unnecessary backwords change.

The same info now contained in a far bigger box, thus can't easily compare large numbers of users on one page, and group circle colours now obscured.

They really need to stop playing around with cosmetic nonsense like this and reducing the user experience.

Regarding ethnicity queries over accuracy - have people honestly accounted for all their autosomal matches. I rest my case.
