Hello Rob,

Wow! That's quite some information. Thank you. I've spent a lot of time today following through, you 'woke me up', as not much more was done in the way of completing details after the initial enquiry.

So pleased that you have clarified the situation with the ashes (Ron Olsen) as I found the Olsen's photo from Whenua Tapu Cemetery, Porirua, Wellington, NZ (FindAGrave). There's also another page for (a) Ronald Hans Olsen, burial - Buderim Crematorium and Memorial Gardens, Buderim, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. No details given regarding actual burial or dispersal of ashes. Same dates shown (b 1930 d 7 May 1982).

I think we should wait until your third posting here, and then I will send a PM to you with my email address. Where are you living now?

Regards.

Hello Rob Olsen,

The parents of Margaret Lily Mae (Lewis) Olsen were Franklin Peter Lewis (1852-1912) and Tennie A. Wright (1872-1920). They married on 15 Oct 1888 in Sumner County, Tennessee. They had two sons, and two daughters that I know about.

I did not know that Ronald Hans Olsen (1930-1982) had married or there were any children. I only knew that he was buried at Whenua Tapu Cemetery, Porirua, Wellington, NZ. Today I found some details of his wife, Clarice E Olsen (1919-1989). However, I do not know her maiden name or place of birth and would appreciate any further information.

After you have made three posts on here, we can send a personal message. I do have details of your gt gt grandparents Lewis.

Regards.

US Lookup Requests / Frederick A. Onstott Jr (1915-1981) - Gridley, Butte, Ca.
« on: Tuesday 16 September 25 02:47 BST (UK)  »

Hello,

I am wondering if someone might be able to obtain a copy of a newspaper article please.

On 19 May 1981, Frederick Arthur Onstott Jr (1915-1981) was on his way home, when he was struck by a train, in Gridley, Butte, Ca., and died.

An article about the accident appeared on the front page of The Gridley Herald (22 May 1981), incl a photo. FindAGrave has a death notice, which indicated the accident.

I would very much like to obtain a copy of this full article please, if someone is able to obtain a copy.

Thank you.

Hi Jim 1,

Thank you. I didn't know about the records being destroyed.

The 1997 newspaper article has definitely clarified a few things for me too.

Hi cath 151,

After a frustrating search, not being familiar with the setup, I was able to locate the two articles you had mentioned. The 1997 article (photo) also confirmed why Alfred Lowther died at such a young age! It seems that he did accept the MM, which was in his son's possession, and why it is shown on his grave.

We don't know how fortunate we are in NZ that ALL nationwide newspapers from the first issues mid-19h Century, until the 1990's, are digitalised and FREE to access. As should all newspapers worldwide! TROVE in Australia is also free.

Thank you for your help, much appreciated. Regards.

Hello JMB1943,

I was unaware of "Lowther's Lambs", but I certainly am now! Wow. Thank you.

My Lowther connection comes from Northumberland, and so far, have been unable to link with the Earls of Lonsdale (Lowther Castle). Always interesting to learn of (possible) connections on the way.
I have recently made another family connection to John McCrae (1872-1918), the Canadian Poet and Soldier - "In Flanders Fields".   And yes, "Lest We Forget"     Regards.
